Directed by Denholm Hewlett, Gorillaz: Reject False Icons chronicles the studio sessions surrounding the group’s past two studio albums, 2018’s The Now Now and 2017’s Humanz, as well as the subsequent touring that supported the aforementioned full-length projects. Vince Staples, Pusha T, Kelela, Danny Brown, Noel Gallagher and other high-profile artists and collaborators will also make appearances during the movie. “Gorillaz isn’t about anything specific, ” Gorillaz architect explained to The Guardian during a 2017 interview. “It’s very unruly. There was zero overarching story/meaning behind it, just a bunch of artists recording and performing 2 albums. which could have been interesting but since there were no interviews, no meaningful interactions, zero in depth explanation of anything. it wasn't. It felt exactly like someone going on holiday and just filming a 20second clip every day and stitching it together when they got home. But instead of just showing it to whoever was on the vacation and some friends and laughing at the memories and antics they made it 1.5 hours long, charged 16 euros, hyped it up by being all mysterious, and bored the crap out of everyone watching. I was there with a friend and long term fan of the gorillaz (since album 1) and the first thing he said to me when the lights came on was 'I tought it was never gonna end! It's like this song never gets old ??. Gorillaz: Reject False Icons Free. Being a long time Gorillaz fan and loving the Bananaz documentary I was really looking forward to seeing this film. This documentary captures the recording and tours of Humanz and The Now Now. I would have liked to have seen more behind the scenes studio content and less concert footage. Also found it frustrating only hearing 20 second snippets of their songs. Highlights of the film include the version of Busted and Blue with Kelela and Albarn's performance of Cloud of Unknowing.
