This filmed closing night performance of the 16 week run in London had me alternating between smiling ear to ear and weeping from the sheer power of emotion the leads convey with only their voices. I've never identified why this music moves me so deeply or why the actual play manages to push all my buttons but it does, time and time again. It would be the thrill of my life to experience a performance of this caliber in person. Until then, I'll wait for this concert to appear on PBS. I was excited to see this cast and all the familiar and new faces! Carrie Hope Fletcher blew me away the most. I knew she was an amazing actress and artist since I've seen her in Les Miserables as Eponine, which wasn't my favorite, and other musicals as well where she did GREAT, but I will be honest and say that I was skeptical to her being cast as Fantine in this concert. I just wasn't sure… Just everything a fanatic of the Les Mis stage show would want. Ive booked for October as a birthday gift. I dont live in the Uk so itll be a bit of hassle with traveling and booking but totally worth it. I chose to see JOJ because I cannot stand Alfie with his zero emotions and operatic-full-force voice. Ive seen JOJ and Carrie in Dubai a few years ago and Im so thrilled to see Carrie plays Fantine. The cherry on the top is Michael Ball - as someone who listens to the 10th anniversary concert religiously; seeing Ball is a dream comes true. Such a shame Michael won't play Marius. he made that role... and no one has ever topped it.
