As much as I don't like retroactive continuity, it would be nice to know they're out there - Hugh might even be a senior member of the police force - deputy chief or something if he had had a long and successful career (with Phryne's help. What would really be great is if they did one episode that used flashbacks and present day and got the original folks together - the current Miss Fisher solving the one cold case that Phryne and Jack never solved with an older Dot and Hugh recalling the events and filling in information to help solve the current case that seems to be linked somehow to the old case. Maybe not something you'd want to do the first series since the show would need to stand on its own, but perhaps in a longer second series if it gets one. What I don't get is how Phryne has a niece (or more likely she's somehow the new Miss Fisher's great aunt. Did I miss something. Wasn't Janey her only sister? While her ward Jane might have had children and so could somehow be in the mix, it seems a bit convoluted. While it would have been interesting if the new policeman had been Jack's grandson, it has implications if Jack's grandson were not Phryne's also - though if he were Dot and Hugh's grandson, that would be something.
