It’s been 17 years since the last sequel came out, but some of the key elements are still easy to pin down: You need Will Smith as flashy Detective Sergeant Michael “Mike” Lowery, and Martin Lawrence as his slightly more sedate platonic life partner Detective Sergeant Marcus Burnett. The other one. ) 2) Honestly a little disappointed at how smooth the action in this film felt? it was like they wanted to sand down the edges of Bayhem into something a little more palatable. But Bad Boys should be the kind of dumb action movie where a bunch of cops drive recklessly through Brazilian favelas, just because it seems cool. 3) If they ever make a Gears of War movie (sorry- when) these guys should be behind it. The entire third act screamed Gears of War to me, which is an outstanding thing to do since that is a game and phrase I have not seen or thought about in maybe 8 or so years now. In BAD BOYS II, they sneak a small army into Cuba. In this one they fly commercial to Mexico. Not without its moments, including a handful of good lines and some nice handheld longer takes and assorted camera gags in the relatively legible action sequences. Otherwise this is mightily generic. You'll be longing for the manic, gorgeous awfulness of Bay's plastic poison. Rubber bullets? Fuck that. We bad boys! Grown man crying at his grandson being born? Fuck that pussy shit! That’s the worldview of this true psycho who has warmed his way into America’s heart.? Martin Lawrence, on the other hand, is the gift that keeps giving. He really helped me laugh and relax into this patently absurd, obviously dumb, and relatively good time at the movies. Way too many strings and speeches. It also lacks the manic, hyper-alpha filmmaking style that brought an over-the-top, comically mean touches that Michael Bay brought to the series. If you enjoy these characters, you’ll enjoy this dumb movie that has some pretty funny moments throughout. Mit zwei großen Pils also genau das, was ich nach einem langen Lerntag gesucht habe. This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth. #BadBoysForLife is a dope Hollywood Masala Entertainer. It has action, drama, comedy and most important ingredient - Family. Apart from that I think there was a deep connection between this film and Batman. While driving Porsche, Will Smith's character makes a reference to Batmobile. But the connection runs deeper. I think the writers have adapted or gotten inspired by Son of Batman storyline. Basically, Will Smith is Batman. Martin Lawrence is his buddy/sidekick Robin. AMMO is extended Bat-family. Isabel is Tali and Armando is Damian. Not that great an arc. Still quite an interesting read if you want to know how his son, Damian, came into his life. The action resembles a 3rd person shooter more than the chaos of the first two, though the hand to hand combat is noticeably better (the motorcycle chase is also impressive). The nihilistic edge that defined the series isn't there, replaced by a telenovella set in the cartel (the sitcom aspects were there since the 1st). But the whole concoction works because it zeroes into the chemistry of Will Smith and Martin Lawrence. They sell this cheesy story to the point where I almost got emotional. It's not the same Bad Boys we remember, but it still feels like a proper sequel. Pleasant surprise. I honestly could have been so much worse.
