If he had ordered everyone to drink poison, then I would understand why he'd be compared to Jim Jones or some other heretical cult leader. The fact is that Patrick was simply trying to prepare those he loved to be ready to meet Christ when he comes again in glory, which could still come at any day. It would be heretical to NOT act as Patrick did regarding the end of times, because he was just trying to live as Christ commanded.
