Country Japan Tenki no ko is a movie starring Kotaro Daigo, Nana Mori, and Shun Oguri. A high-school boy who has run away to Tokyo befriends a girl who appears to be able to manipulate the weather 2019 star Sei Hiraizumi 8093 Votes genre Fantasy. I have been waiting for this movie for two years. I followed it since it was first announced, and now I have seen it come to fruition. Weathering with You, or Tenki no Ko, was my most anticipated movie of 2020, and for me, it delivered on everything I could've expected, and more. Definitely the best movie I've seen in recent memory, and one of my favorite anime movies ever. I'm not exactly familiar with most of the ditector's work, I actually haven't seen Your Name yet, but Tenki no Ko has completely sold me on him. I've actually already got a date night planned now where we are going to go through at least Your Name and 5 Centimeters Per Second. And please, be warned. SPOILER ALERT! Go into this movie completely blind if at all possible. Weathering with You is a fantasy and romance anime film, from breakout director Makoto Shinkai. It stars Kotaro Daigo as Hadoka Morishima, and Nana Mori as Hina. If these names aren't familiar to you, then fear not! Nana and Kotaro are both sort of unknown actors, who won Shinkai over with their auditions. Tenki no Ko also includes performances from some more recognizable actors, Tsubasa Honda as Natsumi Suga, Shun Oguri as Keisuke Suga, and even the man himself, the greatest voice actor alive today, Yûki Kaji as Detective Takai. Honestly, the performances alone make Tenki no Ko worth seeing. They're filled with depth and emotion, and really sell you on the witty and deep dialogue. But man oh man, is there more where that came from. I'm not sure how long this meeting will go on for, so bear with me. Perhaps I'll throw in a comment afterward that sort of summarizes my thoughts, and whether I believe its worthy of your time or not in the face of so many other films. Nevertheless, let's talk about some visuals! The animation in Tenki no Ko is magnificent. It is one of the most beautiful works of art I've ever had the privilege of seeing. Anime is beginning to reach heights I never would've imagined as a child watching Dragon Ball and begging my older brother to let me read his copies of Berserk. The imagery takes your breath away. Tenki no Ko could tell its story entirely without dialogue and I believe you would understand everything. The city feels real and alive, the people have unique designs and voices, everything just comes together to make this wonderful world that makes you stop and say "Wow" upon seeing it. The buildings are all intricately detailed, and there are so many little aspects and references that I can see myself pausing in rewatches just to take it all in, which is something I hardly ever do. I could've watched Hadoka trudge through the city for hours, and the scene of Hina on top of the building after saving the fireworks show is the standout for me. Now, the weather. The real star of the movie, the weather in Tenki no Ko is astounding to watch. The water animation is absolutely fantastic. I am an absolutely sucker for good water animation, and Tenki no Ko is up there with Moana for me for it. It's not so much that it feels realistic like Moana, but you can just feel the effort that went into making this water fit within the movie and not take you out of it, which does happen in anime occasionally. The scene where Hadoka is trying to save Hina from the brothel owners, and is tackled to the ground I believe really demonstrates the water animation best. The clouds were a huge surprise for me. Especially the scenes of Hina, and later Hina and Hadoka, falling into and through them. I was speechless at the beauty of the sky, and in awe as they fell through it. Also, that Cloud Serpent reveal and as it ate Hadoka as he was trying to save Hina.. just wow. Everything about the weather was amazing. And last, but not least, the character designs. They aren't really anything groundbreaking, but damn do they just fit, and the eyes pop and sparkle. What I mean by them fitting, though, is the characters fit their voices. A lot of the time in anime, I take issue with voice actors not fitting with the design of the characters. This can certainly then be saved by a great performance, and a lot of the time that does happen, because Japan is filled with extremely talented voice actors, but when you're introduced to a character, their voice can really throw you off if it doesn't seem to fit. Tenki no Ko does not have that issue. Hina, Hodoka, and Nagi all sound their age. They sound like kids, they talk like kids, and they're drawn like kids. Hina, in particular, after the reveal that she's actually only 15, is just perfectly voiced and animated. It's not some huge "gotcha" twist, it turns her from an extremely immature young adult, into a lost kid who has been in way over her head for way too long, without a guide in her life. But in terms of a voice fitting the design, Shun Oguri's Suga is the gold standard. When Suga speaks, the voice flows out of him as if he's a true to life person. It's honestly hard for even me to describe precisely, but Oguri as Suga is pretty much a perfect performance. As a sort of aside, I'm also gonna throw the motion and movement into this paragraph, since I don't think I have enough to say to justify it's own. The character? movement is so fluid and realistic, the world's motion feels alive and as if it's breathing, and it combines for an anime that doesn't waste a single frame to make its world feel real. An outstanding aspect of the film that I don't think will be talked about enough. The themes and message of the film also really hit home for me. Hadoka's motivations throughout specifically went straight for my heart, and I completely understood his feelings, as I shared a lot of them as a lonely teen stuck in a world I classified as monotonous. I've seen some people sort of bash him as a protagonist because of his perceived shallow motivations, but for me, I haven't met many main characters who felt more real. But I do understand where they're coming from. It can certainly be hard to understand where this kid is coming from if you've never shared his sentiments. Hadoka doesn't have some terrible life he's running from. His parents aren't abusive, his town isn't run down and shitty, but he runs away anyway. He used the exact words I used to use to describe his homelife. "Suffocating. " It can be so suffocating to be stuck in a routine so mundane and plain, and to have no one to take solace in or suffer with, it can be absolutely unbearable. I never felt like Hadoka was being unrealistic with his motivations, I just felt a kindred spirit and a feeling like I was looking into a mirror to the past. God, I could go on and on. I haven't begun to actually touch on the themes of innocence and childhood, or responsibility. I haven't talked about the extensive, and well researched, Japanese mythology permeating the film, or the amazing parallels and references to The Catcher and the Rye, and the similarities between Holden and Hadoka. But I must stop. Because if I keep going, what would we talk about?! So please, let's discuss this wonderful film together. Even if you despised it, I want to hear your thoughts! Let's talk about it! DISCLAIMER: This was written around the 24th of January, but I couldn't get it out until now.

I was stunned by looking at all those beautiful animations. Really you can't do the same with live action. The CG used in fireworks citywide scene was particularly amazing. Animation and music in this movie were perfect. Although I couldn't stop and compare it with other Makoto Shinkai films. Although this film is good but it is not Your Name or 5 cm per Second. You can certainly enjoy the film, it is packed with comedic and thrilling scenes. That being said I hope anime movies from directors like Mamoru Hosoda get a release in India without fans needing to signing petition.(yes it doesn't work all the time, looking at you GoT s8.

Level 1 I tried guessing the plot from the OST, the names of the songs really give away the story. level 1 Damn, Shinkai has been going for them happy endings lately. In a way, that makes me super relieved. Really get bummed when I watched 5cm which is the point but still, happy endings are nice. level 2 Yeah I'm on the other end of the spectrum. I really didn't want him to do 2 happy endings back to back. Critics are gonna get on his case about that. I would've preferred a little level 2 So it does have a happy ending? Man im so relieved, I didnt want to watch it because I wasnt sure. Anime films always rekt me if it doesn end well, I utterly adore Your name but while the ending is happy I still found myself wanting more, in a way of confirmation and epilogue. Does this have a more defined ending or its still somewhat ambiguous? level 1 I couldn't find anywhere online. Is it uploaded yet? level 2 If you're talking about the full film, then no. It isn't coming to North America until 2020, so I doubt it'll be online anytime soon level 2 I just watched the movie subbed on the cinemas? You can ask me. Animation is a 10/10 Emotions 9. 5/10 (well its your personal opinion after watching the movie) I cried in the movie idk if you guys would the emotions/feels where stronger here than your name. Story 8. 5/10 Music 10/10 Ending ummm can't tell what happenes but i felt happy and sad at the same times( anything further is spoilers).

[10] Plot [ edit] High schooler Hodaka Morishima runs away from his island home, planning to move to Tokyo. When his ferry is hit by a freak rainstorm, he is saved by Keisuke Suga, who gives Hodaka his business card. In Tokyo, Hodaka struggles to find work; a teenage McDonald's employee, Hina, takes pity on him and gives him food. After a chance encounter with a mobster, Hodaka finds a gun in a trashcan. Suga hires him as his assistant at a small publishing company, where he meets Suga's niece Natsumi. They investigate urban legends relating to the unusually rainy weather in Tokyo; from a psychic, they hear the legend of a "weather maiden" who can control the weather. Hodaka discovers Hina has been intimidated into working at a back-alley club. He scares off the club owners by firing his gun into the air, and he and Hina escape. She takes him to an abandoned building with a shrine on its roof, where he throws the gun away. Hina astonishes Hodaka by demonstrating her ability to clear the sky by praying. Inspired by the legend of the weather maiden, Hodaka proposes that they start a business: Hina will clear the weather for events such as weddings and parties. Their business quickly becomes a success. The police search for Hodaka, who was caught on a security camera threatening the club owners. Officers arrive at the apartment where Hina lives with her younger brother Nagi and interrogate her; Hina realizes that because they have no legal guardians, with their mother having died recently, social services is going to take them into custody. Hodaka visits Suga, who has also been visited by the police. Suga fires him, explaining that the police suspect him of kidnapping Hodaka. Hodaka, Hina and Nagi try to run away, but they are halted by a storm. Sheltering in a hotel, Hina reveals that she is slowly turning into water. She explains that she is the cause of the abnormal weather, and that she is intended to be a human sacrifice; her disappearance will return the weather to normal. Hodaka promises to protect her, but the next morning, Hina has vanished and the rains have stopped. Hodaka and Nagi are arrested. Hodaka escapes with the help of Natsumi, and they evade the police until he reaches the shrine. Inside, he encounters Suga, who attempts to stop him. Hodaka finds the gun and aims it at Suga. The police surround him, but Suga, touched by Hodaka's desperation, helps him escape. On the roof, Hodaka jumps through the shrine gate and is transported into the sky, where he finds Hina. As they fall to Earth together, Hodaka begs Hina to start living for herself; upon descending to the rooftop shrine, the rains resume. Hina, Hodaka, Natsumi, and Suga are arrested by the police. Three years later, the rain has fallen without end in Tokyo, submerging much of the city. Having finished his probation, Hodaka graduates from high school and returns to Tokyo. He meets Suga, who has expanded his business. Suga encourages him to find Hina. Hadoka finds Hina praying on a street overlooking the drowned city, and the two are reunited. (Actual review starts from the next paragraph)
I don't remember me this excited to watch a movie. We Indians never thought we could experience an anime in theaters until now, as you heard #indiananimemoment #indiawantsanime etc petitions to release anime in our country all those are paid off, thanks to PVR and Vkaao for releasing this movie in India and thanks to Makoto Shinkai for not disappointing a single bit and making our first anime experience such a blast. Like all films from Makoto Shinkai, the screenplay is not an easy one it has to say something behind it in this case about climate change, and what we are facing with current changing weather and disasters, especially for Japan people, understand more than others, really thought-provoking script in the grounded fantasy with the amazing coming of age elements, innocent romantic story and wonderful comedy. Two hours the movie never felt slowed down or rushed, no pacing issues, but in the third act, I wished just more depth to it. The film is gorgeously animated, the powerful visual is easily highlight of the movie. Every single frame is gorgeous especially sunshine scenes for me, rain scenes and whether manipulating or magic scenes really breathtaking we can see the production and work of all artists not wasted a single bit. Like previous work RADWIMPS for Your name, they did beautiful work in this one also, songs and musical score added weight to scenes emotionally, anticipation, entertainment and so in every way It has really memorable characters both protagonists finding there a place in the world learning to live individual life and falling for each other, other characters like his senpai and other female role have steals funny scenes. And when guest roles appeared in the movie, the whole theater was screaming! Verdict - Take my word and watch it surely you will enjoy and if you are Indian Otaku please support and watch in theatres. (Thanks for tolerating my English.
I dont care about spoilers just tell me what happened in the whole movie, especially in the end, if you watched the movie in Japan.
