Vi taler naturligvis om Michael Hutchence fra det australske rockband INXS. Gennem private videooptagelser, gamle klip og interviews fra venner, familie, kærester, branchefolk og bandmedlemmer bliver vi inviteret til et yderst intimt blik ind i det liv, Michael Hutchence levede, da han kunne kalde sig en af verdens største rockguder. Men dokumentaren er mere end en glamouriseret fortælling. Det lykkes for instruktøren Richard Lowenstein at flytte fokus fra Hutchences vilde liv og tragiske død i 1997 til mennesket inde bag facaden. Det sker især gennem samtaler med Hutchences ekskærester Kylie Minouge og danske Helena Christensen, som her for første gang fortæller om sit liv med Hutchence. Kylie Minouge fortæller om sit korte, men intenst romantiske forhold til den unge Michael. Hun var det uskyldige unge menneske, mens han var rockstjernen, der ville opleve alt. Deres forhold varede kun et par år, og Minouge blev efterladt med et knust hjerte. Herefter blev H utchence kæreste med? Helena Christensen, og det er hendes historie, som virkelig kan forklare hans deroute. En nat i København udviklede sig katastrofalt, da Hutchence sammen med Helena pludselig kom i vejen for en taxichauffør, som sprang ud af sin bil og angreb musikeren. Hutchence fik skader i hovedet, hvis omfang han holdt hemmeligt frem til sin død. Efter episoden skal han have ændret karakter og være blevet mere aggressiv. Instruktøren har instrueret de fleste af INXS og Hutchences solo-musikvideoer, og man fornemmer tydeligt, at han var tæt på stjernen. Så tæt, at filmen bedst kan beskrives som en indfølt hyldest til en mand, der døde i en alder af bare 37 år. De mere ømtålelige dele af historien går dokumentaren således i en bue udenom, og trods titlen Mystify: Michael Hutchence kommer den ikke ind på de mystiske omstændigheder omkring hans død. Han begik selvmord efter længere tids depression og retslige kampe mellem kæresten Paula Yates og hendes eksmand, den verdenskendte Bob Geldorf. Han blev fundet nøgen bag en dør, som han med et bælte havde brugt til at hænge sig i. Intet afskedsbrev. Det gav grobund for teorien om, at hans død var et uheld som følge af sexlegen, hvor man kvæler sig selv for at opnå en højere orgasme. Flere af Hutchences familiemedlemmer og endda Paula Yates (der døde af en overdosis i 2000) har sagt, at det godt kunne være en mulighed. Men det nævner dokumentaren intet om. Michael Hutchence havde sit krøllede hår og enorme karisma en stærk tilstedeværelse på scenen, hvor han foldede sig ud for øjnene af tusindvis af fans. Great way to start off my Friday! ???????????. Mystify: michael hutchence documentary. Some screencaps from Mystify - which I still havent seen since I live in the US, alas. But Ghost Pictures was good enough to put up this video ?which has helped to tide me over. Despite seeing this incredibly moving documentary twice back in July, last nights showing still managed to leave me in harsh sobs once more. To all my US friends, please see this if you can. Hours later, my mind was still heavily affected. As somebody who suffers with bipolar disorder, feeling all too much in severe lengths is something I wouldnt wish upon my worst enemy. To know that such a beautiful soul was senselessly cursed with this unbearable affliction. It continues to break my heart in ten-fold. Thus, I had to get out this intense rant of broken words on paper. I call it “The Feeler. ” Once a star is born, are they destined to hurt more than the average human? A wicked game of trials and tribulations, because a gift of talent bears a price. But what if they unknowingly become one of lifes greatest admirers? That every aspect of the human experience maintains a fascinating pleasure. A burning love of curiosity, so deep he doesnt think of the fire. What if he treated passion kindly? embracing it with a selfless mind and heart. Never abusing the natural blessings, only contemplating the unknown answers and perhaps, often missed unseen beauty. Sharing what he dreamt with every family he could find. Belonging to many loves he never wanted to hurt. A sensitive soul who carefully and attentively created each art piece he brought into the world. Not wanting the glamorised false face of fame, just recognised as the priceless artist that he ever so wished to be. Recognition of appreciation for the art he gave back to the world. The world that spared inspiration in order to receive the inner workings of someone greater than itself. A voice that can sing without realising its power. Failing to understand that he also, was one of lifes most beautiful and delightful creations. A soul destined to see the tantalising life in everything but himself. But why should he have to lose it? stripped of every joy that the human brain can feel and taste. Stealing the light that shined on the wonderfully mundane. Destroy all thats god-given. Plunge him into the darkness for the fucking heck of it. Lead him into the dangerous alleyways of his mind that no longer possesses its sweet self-care. A permanent struggle captures the ethereal that he once breathed. Pushing him up against another wall, taking photos of someone whos already gone. Trapping whats left. The theft of a real lover. Someone who embraced life with open arms despite the stab wounds from the back. Why abandon a heart that loved all it could take. Force him to face the collapse of his remaining world. All alone in a room. Cries for help are stifled. Is this what he truly deserves? Once a star is born, they are destined to hurt more than the average human.
