In possibly the series¡Ç most underrated comedic gem A. literally blows up his SUV while listening to Bob Dylan. Cut to the Soprano family household in a deadpan nostalgic scene complete with Tony yelling at his seemingly oblivious son as Meadow petulantly storms off. At first A. ¡Çs inane reaction seems like such a backslide from his speech at uncle Bobby¡Çs funeral. Even then his apparent malignancy could be considered incidental, a channel to express his own frustrations. At this stage in his life at least he¡Çs as much an environmentalist as his aunt Parvati was a follower of the Buddha. That being said I¡Çm almost tempted to see a parallel between the bright gust of light Tony sees during the daytime in the desert to his son¡Çs explosive epiphany but I wouldn¡Çt want to break A. ¡Çs brain. New York and North Jersey reach a truce with Phil¡Çs head on the table. Tony¡Çs comments about Johnny Sack could be straight politicking though it¡Çs hard to say. At several points both men would have considered the other a rival. I¡Çd be inclined to think that he was just tiptoeing around how obviously this clash was Phil¡Çs War with some pretty enthusiastic cheerleading. Both factions reach a set of terms before departing. Gangland¡Çs guns go at least temporarily silent as both of Tony¡Çs (F)amilies return home. At Satriale¡Çs uncle Pat avails Tony of Janice¡Çs attempt to emotionally extort their uncle of his long lost Bohack haul much to the big guy¡Çs disregard. (I love how even in his addled state Jun can still make his little niece¡Çs intentions. ) Over at the Bing Paulie carefully avoids any unwanted apparitions before phoning the Boss about one of their men¡Çs MIA status. He then mentions the recent news about Carlo¡Çs son being arrested for drug dealing which only fuels both men¡Çs suspicions about his possible defection. I love Patsy¡Çs final scene mostly for how rife with speculation it is not to mention how Dan Grimaldi has such great chemistry with every actor he works with. Phil is popped by Benny (awesome) and Walden. It¡Çs a satisfying sight even if it barely adheres to Ton¡Çs previously mentioned rule about families not being touched. Upon hearing of his first assignment¡Çs death Harris blurts out a particularly meta response much to his coworker¡Çs confusion. After speaking with Mink Tony visits his oldest friend and most loyal soldier in teary eyed silence. He takes Sil¡Çs hand somehow possibly remembering when his consigliere did the same when he was incapacitated. After a tender unspoken goodbye he leaves. His fate is left unknown. Paulie agrees to take over as construction czar though he is still wary of what he sees as a cursed position. After doing his best to quell his Dutch uncle¡Çs fears Tony departs leaving Walnuts and the shop¡Çs adopted tabby cat as the sole survivors of the Satriale crew. It¡Çs a somber sight. Curiously, an ominously interpreted one as well with the tabby seemingly leering at Paulie. But I don¡Çt think so. S6 began with Burroughs introducing an ancient Egyptian motif and if we continue from that opening Paulie¡Çs hilarious rivalry seems pretty misplaced. Cats were seen as guardians at that time. This was a really smart and scary movie that my friends and I enjoyed. Definitely going to be seeing it again with my other friends.
