Jumanji: The Next Level is a 2019 American fantasy adventure comedy film directed by Jake Kasdan, and co-written by Kasdan, Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg. It is the fourth installment in the Jumanji franchise, and the second direct sequel to the 1995 film Jumanji. It stars Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, Nick Jonas, Alex Wolff, Morgan Turner, Ser'Darius Blain and Madison Iseman reprising their roles from the previous film, while Awkwafina, Rory McCann, Danny Glover and Danny DeVito also join the cast. The film's plot takes place three years after Welcome to the Jungle, in which the same group of teenagers, along with an old friend and two unwitting additions, become trapped in Jumanji, where they all find themselves facing new problems and challenges with both old and new avatars, while having to save the land from a new villain in order to escape. Jumanji: The Next Level was theatrically released in the United States on December 13, 2019 by Sony Pictures Releasing under its Columbia Pictures label. The film grossed $756. 7 million worldwide against a $125 million budget. Plot Edit In 2019, three years after their adventure in Jumanji, Spencer Gilpin, Anthony "Fridge" Johnson, Martha Kaply, and Bethany Walker lead different lives, but plan a reunion brunch in Brantford, New Hampshire that year. Spencer, apprehensive of the meeting due to depression, contemplates returning to Jumanji where he had purpose, and spends his first night looking over the broken video-game system he held onto. The following day, his friends visit his home, meeting with Spencer's grandfather Eddie, who is recovering from hip surgery, and Eddie's former friend and business partner Milo Walker, who is visiting for an unknown reason. Learning that they have no idea where Spencer is, the group search the house, and find the Jumanji game repaired in the basement. Realising Spencer returned to the game, his friends decide to follow him. The game malfunctions when starting up, sucking in only Fridge and Martha, along with Eddie and Milo, forcing Bethany to contact fellow Jumanji player Alex Vreeke for help. Inside the game, Martha finds herself as her avatar Ruby Roundhouse, yet Fridge becomes Bethany's avatar Professor Sheldon Oberon, while Eddie and Milo become avatars Dr. Smolder Bravestone and Franklin Finbar respectively. After instructing Eddie and Milo on the game's rules, the group encounter non-player character Nigel Billingsley, the game's guide, who reveals that since its last use, Jumanji is suffering from a massive drought. To leave the game, Nigel reveals that the group must recover the "Falcon's Heart" ? a magical necklace stolen by warlord Jurgen the Brutal ? which can end the drought if brought before sunlight and uttering "Jumanji". Transported to a desert called the Dunes to track down Jurgen, and after narrowly escaping a flock of pursuing ostriches, the group encounter Spencer operating as skilled thief Ming Fleetfoot, a new avatar, who agrees to help them after blaming himself for their predicament. While attempting to escape the Dunes, the group face new challenges and problems, along with collecting an in-game item called a Jumanji Berry, and discovering a pool of glowing green water that allows them to switch avatars. In the process, Eddie bickers with Milo, revealing their friendship ended when a diner they owned was sold behind Eddie's back, forcing him into retirement. After the group convince the pair to work together in escaping a troop of mandrills, they soon become reunited with Alex, as his avatar Jefferson McDonough, and Bethany, operating a new avatar called Cyclone ? a black horse that can only be understood by Finbar. Working together, the party leave the Dunes, and find a river with the same glowing green water, allowing Spencer, Bethany, and Fridge to become their original avatars, while Eddie and Milo respectively end up as Ming and Cyclone. Shortly after changing characters, Jurgen captures the group with his mercenaries and brings them to his fortress. Escaping their confinement, Spencer pursues Jurgen to his airship, while the others distract his men. Finding himself unable to best Jurgen, Spencer discovers he is weak to the Jumanji Berry, incapacitating him long enough to send him plummeting to his death in the wintery fog below. Discovering Cyclone has retractable wings, Eddie and Milo work together to rescue Spencer and bring the recovered Falcon's Heart to the sun, calling out "Jumanji" and ending the drought. With the help of Alex, he found out Cyclone also had strengths and weaknesses, one of those strengths being able to fly. Returning the necklace to Nigel for safekeeping, the group are surprised when Milo elects to stay behind and protect the land. Learning he was dying in the real world and thus sought to make up for his actions, Eddie reconciles with him before parting ways. Upon returning to the real world, Spencer decides to teach his grandfather about video games, while Eddie uses what he learned in the game to convince the owner of his old diner to hire him on as a manager, with his grandson and his friends turning up to enjoy a meal together. In a mid-credits scene, the heating mechanic who Spencer's mother hired finally shows up, only to be drawn to the game, while Spencer and the others are surprised to witness a flock of ostriches rush past the diner. Cast Edit Dwayne Johnson as Dr. Xander "Smolder" Bravestone, the avatar used by Eddie and Spencer. Johnson also portrays Bravestone's father in a flashback scene in the film. Danny DeVito as Edward "Eddie" Gilpin: Spencer's grandfather. He is a retired diner owner following the sale of a diner he owned in Brantford, with little understanding of video games. Jack Black as Professor Sheldon "Shelly" Oberon, the avatar used by Fridge, Bethany, and Martha. Ser'Darius Blain as Anthony "Fridge" Johnson. Kevin Hart as Franklin "Mouse" Finbar, the avatar used by Milo and Fridge. Danny Glover as Milo Walker: Eddie's estranged friend and a co-owner in the diner he owned with him, before its sale ended their friendship. Karen Gillan as Ruby Roundhouse, the avatar used by Martha and Fridge. Morgan Turner as Martha Kaply. Nick Jonas as Jefferson "Seaplane" McDonough, the avatar used by Alex. Colin Hanks as Alex Vreeke. Awkwafina as Ming Fleetfoot: a new Jumanji avatar used by Spencer and Eddie, whose character's background is a thief with skills in burglary, pick-pocketing and lock picking, and who has a weakness to pollen. Alex Wolff as Spencer Gilpin. Rory McCann as Jurgen the Brutal: A new antagonist of Jumanji and avatar, whose backstory is presented an iron-fisted and arrogant warlord, responsible for murdering Bravestone's parents years ago. Madison Iseman as Bethany Walker. Rhys Darby as Nigel Billingsley. Bebe Neuwirth as Nora Shepherd [5] In addition, the film also cast a number of actors for supporting roles, which included Dania Ramirez as Jumanji NPC Flame, Massi Furlan as Jumanji NPC Switchblade, Zachary Tzegaegbe as a Young Smolder Bravestone, Jennifer Patino as Bravestone's mother, John Ross Bowie as a minion of Jurgen, and Lamorne Morris as a heater repairman. Lucy DeVito as Maiden, while Marin Hinkle returned alongside returning cast members from Welcome to the Jungle to reprise her role as Mrs. Gilpin. Ashley Scott was originally intended to also appear as herself, but her scenes were later dropped from the final edit. Production Edit Development Edit After the release of the previous film Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, and Nick Jonas had discussed in interviews what a possible Jumanji sequel would be about, including the possibility of the film exploring the origins of the titular game. Karen Gillan had also said that the alternate ending for Welcome to the Jungle would have left the door open for another movie. [6] [7] [8] [9] In February 2018, it was announced that Kasdan would direct the sequel, with Rosenberg and Pinkner again writing the script and Johnson, Hart, Black, and Gillan reprising their roles. [10] On February 22, 2019, Black confirmed the new film as being a fourth Jumanji film because of Zathura: A Space Adventure (2005), serving as the second film and sharing continuity with the other films of the series, with Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle serving as the third film. [11] In July 2019, the film

What happend to specner. Jumanji: The Next Level free online games. I first watched the Jumaji reboot around a year after it was in theaters. I did not expect much from it to be honest, but I ended up loving it. I was excited to hear that they had announced the sequel, but I did not expect much from it. I guess this is twice that I was wrong about this franchise. Feeling disenchanted while in New York for college, Spencer fixed the smashed game console and goes back to revisit Jumanji. He does not tell his three friends because there is a rift that had formed, mostly stemming from Spencer. When Fridge, Bethany and Martha go looking for him, they discover where he went. They all resolve to go rescue him, but there is a hitch. The console is malfunctioning and Spencer's grandfather and his friend are pulled into the game. This movie made me laugh, hard, and a lot. It is well crafted, but does rely a bit much on the same elements that made the first such a success. I dare say though that this is a slightly better movie that Welcome to the Jungle. The ending was left to imply that there will be a third.

Promotes?teamwork, communication, courage, empathy,?generosity. Characters need one another's strengths to complete missions on each increasingly difficult level?and finish the dangerous game. Teamwork requires trust, honesty. Other messages include idea that people need unconditional friends (their "team") all through life?and that when you feel insecure and lonely is when you most need to reach out to friends. Positive Role Models & Representations Original characters are brave,?empathetic, know how to troubleshoot and solve problems and work together as a team, even with new additions. Eddie and Milo are as helpful and adaptable as they can be and learn from past mistakes, forgive each other, and become partners again. Like the first film, many scenes of danger and death (though most of it just temporary). In game universe, characters start out with three lives, and each ultimately gets down to one life after dying in various ways. Some deaths are comically gruesome, like being attacked by a snake, ostrich, or mandrill;?plunging to death; or being flattened by a rock. In an opening game sequence, it's explained that a villain killed a character's parents and had his fighters burn and pillage a village. Sad reference to terminal illness. A couple of kisses (both in avatar form and in?real bodies) between Martha (as Ruby Roundhouse) and Spencer (as Bravestone). Grandpa Eddie (as Bravestone) kisses a former flame a few times, while everyone else stares at them. Bravestone smolders with intensity. Nonsexual conversation about a eunuch (which a character has to pretend to be) and his legendary "sacrifice" and lack of testicles. Eddie uses the "smolder" to flirt with an acquaintance in real life. Frequent use of "goddamn" and "goddammit, " as well as "s--t" and "holy s--t. " Language also includes "son of a bitch, " "crap, " "hell, " "stupid, " "damn, " "sucks, " "boobs, " "balls, " "oh my God, " "go screw yourselves, " etc. Sony brand displayed a couple of times; other brands briefly shown or discussed include Apple, Instagram. Drinking, Drugs & Smoking One scene takes place in a bar and another at?a celebration where adult background characters hold drinks. What parents need to know Parents need to know that Jumanji: The Next Level is the?sequel to 2017's hit? Jumanji reboot. Stars? Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Kevin Hart,? Jack Black, and Karen Gillan ?all return. And Danny DeVito and Danny Glover are added to the mix this time for some multigenerational humor as Spencer ( Alex Wolff) and his motley crew of friends are sucked back into the perilous Jumanji video game for another high-stakes adventure. Not everyone lands in the avatar they originally inhabited, and the two seniors end up in the muscular bodies of Johnson's and Hart's video game characters. Violence remains a little dark, with the game characters dying in various ways, including animal attacks, being struck with poisoned darts, falling to death, and being blown up -- all of which ends up leaving many in a risky one-life-left state. But sensitive viewers should know the end is just as satisfying here as it is in the previous movie, and there are clear themes of teamwork, communication, empathy, and courage. You can also expect?a fair bit of swearing (mostly "goddamn" and "holy s--t"), as well as a couple of references to bodies and body parts -- but not nearly as many as in the previous movie. There's less flirting and sexual tension in this installment in general, although there are still a few kisses and some general "smoldering" by Bravestone. A little bit of background drinking is seen. Stay up to date on new reviews. Get full reviews, ratings, and advice delivered weekly to your inbox. Subscribe User Reviews Adult Written by HHam December 14, 2019 Adult Written by Meme68 December 15, 2019 Kid, 11 years old January 26, 2020 Kid, 9 years old January 19, 2020 What's the story? JUMANJI: THE NEXT LEVEL takes place the year following the events of Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. Spencer ( Alex Wolff), Martha (Morgan Turner), Fridge (Ser'Darius Blain), and Bethany ( Madison Iseman) are either in college or on gap years. When Spencer comes home for the holidays, he's supposed to hang out with his Grandpa Eddie ( Danny DeVito), who has moved in temporarily while recovering from hip surgery. On the day the Jumanji survivors are supposed to meet up for breakfast, Spencer is conspicuously missing, so the friends head to his house, where they?discover the still-broken Jumanji video game in his basement. They figure that's where he is and decide to follow. But something goes awry, and both Eddie and his estranged best friend, Milo ( Danny Glover), are transported into the game, too. They end up as Dr. Bravestone ( Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson) and Mouse Finbar ( Kevin Hart), while Fridge is Professor Oberon ( Jack Black), and Bethany is left behind altogether. Martha, at least, is still Ruby Roundhouse ( Karen Gillan). The reconstituted team must find Spencer and also play the game while accompanied by two seniors who are having trouble reconciling their circumstances -- not to mention their new muscular bodies. Is it any good? The return of the likable core cast and the addition of DeVito, Glover, and Awkwafina make this sequel an entertaining twist on the original -- and surprisingly funnier than expected. Hart is quite amusing while speaking in Glover's slower, more deliberate cadence, and even though The Rock's?DeVito impersonation isn't always spot on, the gimmick works enough of the time to garner laughs throughout the film. Gillan carries most of the story as Martha/Ruby, who must be steadfast as everyone, including Fridge (in the unathletic avatar of Oberon), acts confused or frustrated. The game aspect isn't as compelling here as the characterizations, because audiences familiar with the first movie know that all will be well, despite the various fight sequences, killer animals, and puzzles to survive. If the first movie was about four high schoolers from different social groups becoming friends, the second one is about two former best pals/business partners (Glover and DeVito) getting one last chance to reclaim their friendship. Sure, there are angry ostriches, mandrills, and homicidal warriors thrown into the mix -- and even a couple of jump-worthy moments. But, at its heart, this franchise is about finding your tribe, your people, your team:?the unconditional friends who?can help you overcome the toughest odds and the most perilous situations. Talk to your kids about... Families can talk about the violence in Jumanji: The Next Level. Did it change the impact knowing that the characters were inside a game? What about the idea that dying repeatedly could force characters to die in real life as well? Talk about how the cast of Jumanji: The Next Level must use teamwork, communication, empathy, and? courage ?to conquer each level of the game and ultimately succeed in their mission? Why are those character strengths so important in the game, the movie, and in real life? Although Ruby Roundhouse is still in her crop-top and short-shorts outfit, there's less of a focus this time on her sex appeal and more on her strength and abilities. What do you think of the change in perspective for the character? Why do you think so many video games feature "sexy" characters/avatars? Discuss the intergenerational humor in the story. What did the grandpa-age?men learn from the college-age?teens, and what did the kids learn from the seniors? When Sony first rebooted Jumanji two years ago with the decades-later, new-cast follow-up Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle, it was a pleasant surprise even in the long shadow of Star Wars. It was pretty good for a movie nobody was clamoring for. For a movie based on a book about a board game, Welcome to the Jungle found a good premise: four teenagers of varying social positions would be forced to inhabit the bodies of avatars that looked suspiciously like Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan. The stars, then, would also be forced to inhabit the teenagers: Dwayne Johnson would improbably play an insecure nerd, Kevin Hart a strapping athlete frustrated by his newly diminutive frame, Jack Black a popular queen bee type aghast to find herself as a middle-aged man, and Karen Gillan an awkward girl shocked by her newfound action-heroine coordination. It was a perfectly timed gambit, coinciding with the downfall of the broadly popular Hollywood comedy. Welcome to the Jungle may have looked like a high-concept action-adventure, but it was really offering star-driven laughs. The new follow-up Jumanji: The Next Level isn’t as conceptually inspired ? few sequels are ? but it definitely understands that the new Jumanji movies are, at their heart, body-swap comedies. The teenage characters, back in their normal forms, have been separated for their first semester at college and are reuniting for holiday break. Spencer (Alex Wolff), pining for his time in Dwayne Johnson’s super-body avatar, impulsively heeds the call of the broken video game console and gets sucked back into the world of Jumanji. Once his friends realize what’s happened, they set out to rescue him. But director and co-writer Jake Kasdan doesn’t stick them all back in the same bodies. Martha (Morgan Turner) once again takes the form of Karen Gillan’s Lara Croft-ish badass, but Fridge (Ser’Darius Blain) is now Jack Black’s tweedy map-reader, while Johnson and Hart are “played” by Spencer’s Grandpa Eddie (Danny DeVito) and his former best friend Milo (Danny Glover), respectively, who have also been sucked into the digital world. Johnson does a game (if not exactly spot-on) imitation of DeVito’s rasp, while Hart does a (quite spot-on) imitation of Danny Glover’s gentility. That’s just the setup; the movie goes further into body-swap territory and introduces Awkwafina as another gaming avatar, among other complications. For pure laughs, The Next Level might outdo its predecessor. Hart milks a funny running gag about the leisurely pace of Milo’s speech, which would be maddening if not for its unflagging good nature, which somehow makes it funnier. It’s also a kick to see the artist formerly known as The Rock scrunch up his face and bark “HAH? ” in confusion, suggesting that Grandpa Eddie has less of a hearing problem than a comprehension one. Body-swapping, or character-shifting comedy, has long been a stunt that allows some virtuosic comic actors to rise to the occasion; think of Steve Martin sharing his body with the ghost of Lily Tomlin in All of Me, Eddie Murphy double-cast in Bowfinger (and quintuple-cast in other movies), or Tom Hanks playing an overgrown 13-year-old in Big. It’s neat to see the Jumanji series sneak some of that old-fashioned performance value into a big-ticket Hollywood blockbuster. Image: Sony Pictures Yet, even as the movie continues to invent new twists on its own formula ? Gillan and Black share a flashy scene around the midpoint ? there’s also something oddly dispiriting about watching this Jumanji. Because the “real” characters are so flat and uninspired, there’s a limit to how far their comic avatars can go. The personas twist, but they don’t really develop or escalate, settling instead for the kind of rote lesson-learning that turns adventure movies and comedies alike into self-improvement seminars. Eddie and Milo address a decades-long rift over a restaurant they used to co-own; the kids relearn some of the lessons from the first movie. A decade or so ago, Tropic Thunder stuck Jack Black in the jungle with Ben Stiller, Robert Downey Jr., and more, and let its cast play off each other’s personas. The Next Level thinks the milk-bland personalities of its central teenagers and a couple of cranky old people count as a rooting interest to ground the hijinks. Black, Hart, and Awkwafina could be a comedy dream team; instead, they’re stuck hustling around a bunch of video game battles. This would be less of a sticking point if the Jumanji movies really were cracking action adventures. But while Kasdan has made some fine comedies (and one all-timer, the terrific comic detective picture Zero Effect), his command of set pieces lacks the playfulness he brings to the funny bits. There’s a specific action sequence involving a herd of angry monkeys and a series of rickety, rotating bridges that a director like Gore Verbinski might have choreographed with pizazz; Kasdan’s version turns into a smeary CG-blur of some cool ideas and momentary thrills. Earlier in the movie, a chase involving a desert vehicle and a bunch of ostriches is downright dull. Hordes of CG animals probably do count as part of the Jumanji brand, so it’s unlikely that they would disappear entirely. But it’s still a shame to see these actors thrown to the ostriches with such abandon. In the end, the performers’ high energy feels weirdly thankless; they shift their voices and their posture and their personalities, and they’re all still just subsumed into blockbuster noise. In other words, don’t count on anyone reaching into the Hollywood game and rescuing comedy anytime soon.
