My first true concert was going to see INXS on Aug. 30th 1988 in Memphis, TN when I was 11 years old. I had the biggest crush on Michael Hutchence and literally bawled when he died! Their music was soulful and wonderful to me. I even had a jean jacket with his face on one sleeve and Paul McCartney on the other that my brother made for me! There will never be another Michael was my generation's Jim Morrison he was so awesomely wonderful. can't wait for this movie.

After being suckered into the previously noted INXS DVD from 1984 I picked this up with a fair amount of skepticism. I'm a fan of the group but not a groupie so I can't make tremendous comparisons to different eras of the group etc I really like what I see on this DVD. The set opens with the title track for their final CD with Michael Hutchence "Elegantly Wasted" so I am assuming its close to the final concert film we will see and the group is rocking really hard. This incarnation features a couple of very easy on the eyes back up vocalists in short INXS T-shirts and the band are in their most flamboyant facial hair to cowboy hats and sunglasses. The German crowd are supportive and its a very energetic show. The thing I liked about INXS is that they rocked hard but always had great grooves... The only drawback is the relatively short duration of the concert which is an hour and twenty minutes (but it was a tv concert so I understand). The production values are typically first rate as German and Japanese television usually is. The bonus tracks are from the previously noted 1984 concert but unlike that terrible DVD these 7 tracks which clock in at 24 minutes look broadcast ready! The 1984 set is a fitting bookend to the main show from only months before Michael Hutchence passed away. I recommend this to INXS you buy the other excellent DVDs I'm Only Looking - The Best of INXS and INXS - Live Baby Live which is their ultimate live show. Jesus, Prague still looks the same today as 32 years ago. Michael was such a passionate and sensitive man. I feel like there are not enough men in the world like him, and there should be. It's also clear that INXS were a pop band that was nothing without Michael and Paula was not the world's best influence. Don't think I even moved from my seat I was so engrossed in Michael's story. I loved how it was made with just footage of Michael and his life, and the voices of those in his life just talking about their time with him. I was so emotional at the end I could not hold back my tears for such a beautiful human being.

So grateful to see this documentary about a man and his his band who brought so much joy in their music to so many.

In his final days, Hutchence was portrayed by the media in the worst of ways. This documentary brings to light the real truth of that time and indeed his life. The media threw everything but the truth at this story back in the day. They had everyone convinced, but they didn't know the truth. If anything, it just goes to show how influential the media are. Even me, a boy who lived and breathed the Australian rock band for a decade, was at odds with Hutchence in the mid 90's and the media's take seemed plausible. How wrong they were. Richard Lowenstein has restored the credibility to this fallen idol by populating the years with facts, some of which only came to light during the editing of the documentary. This is an important documentary, especially if you're were or are still an INXS fan. There are also lessons in just how powerful the media are with public perception of celebrities. The damage that they are responsible for. I'm glad that after 22 years this goes a long way to setting the record straight. Watch this documentary and celebrate the life of a guy who was a wonderful talent. Because you've probably forgotten how good he was and also will discover how good a human being he actually was.
