Of course they have Colbert. Blip bloppity bloop best line in the movie. Cheesy one-liners, facial close-ups, forced humour and political correctness gone mad. Yup, this sums up my experience after spending at the movies.
Where The Force Awakens was a complete rehash/remake of A New Hope; The Last Jedi introduced new God powers; and now The Rise of Skywalker takes it even further with plenty (and I mean plenty) of nods to the original Return of the Jedi and suddenly makes Rey (you remember the main character who barely had any training to begin with then has some very, very brief training) the Almighty Jedi with powers of Ressurection and whatever else. The movie seemed more like a CGI cutscene from an open-world video game because the first half focused on essentially fetch-quests. Then the finale was something to be really bad about. The Return of the Jedi was the climax battle with Luke Skywalker and his father Anakin (Vader. Well guess what? Here we have a battle with Rey and. her grandfather Palpatine (Sith Lord. Talk about originality. And the ending? It's the real kick-in-the-balls for all the true Star Wars fans. When someone asks for Rey's name, she says "Rey. Skywalker. I mean seriously? She's not even part of the bloodline so she just decides to steal the name because guess what, I'm the Jedi God with abilities not even Yoda or any of the original Jedi that came before her had. So yeah, apparently anyone can be a Skywalker. What a joke of a film, save yourselves the cash from seeing this in the cinema. John Williams will be remembered as the best music writer for all great movies but Star Wars will be his real gift for everyone including Indiana Jones. As long as he stays Alive will watch all the movies with his wonderful music hes done for many years. Star Wars opening crawls will be my favorite openings. Sonic, Top Gun and Bad Boys got me feeling nostalgic. Luke could fart force bubbles, run around popping them with his lightsaber, and still not be able to save Star Wars. Lets step aside and stop making memes about this and analyze it. >He starts the trailer, heavy breathing comes up, his eyes lighten up at the image of Lucasfilm logo appearing on the screen. There is nothing else, just breathing and the logo of a corporation. >Then it cuts to Rey on a desert planet standing dramatically. At this point the guy reacting can barely hold back the tears. We are 5 seconds in and he is literally about to cry. >Then the sound of a ty fighter comes piloted by the famous pilot who-the-fuck-ever and the guy turns red looking like hes about to cry. This man turns from normal to crying in under 30 seconds from a trailer. And to add salt to injury the 5 to 10 seconds of the trailer were the logo of Lucasfilms. Can you watch this seriously and tell me that this isnt programmed behavior. Edit: To clarify some stuff. My criticisms were harsh, but they were not hate. Believe it or not I dont hate the guy for making a video crying, I am just saying that his behavior (especially in the first few seconds of the trailer) are abnormal.

The final 1 hour is better, and just about saves the film from being entirely bad. It contains some meaningful themes that could have risen to greatness, if handled better. The good news is that in terms of plot, the film does not actively *harm* Star Wars's rich narrative, by detracting from it in any permanent way. Star Wars is after all no stranger to critical flops that have a decent plot buried underneath. The bad news is probably just what you expected, that the film is a missed opportunity to make what could have been a great piece of cinema and catharsis. Anyone surprised by this style of film-making hasn't been paying attention to JJ Abrams body of work. Star Trek, a show known for having a mature, quiet and contemplative side, became at times a seizure of light and sound under his direction in 2009 and 2013. There was a lot of token fan service and misplaced tone-deaf comedy in those movies. Gladly, this aspect isn't bad in The Rise of Skywalker. Generally speaking, Hollywood isn't known for being able to make endings meaningful. Ending the most famous saga in film history would be a tall ask for anyone. The film isn't without merit, but makes for hard viewing at times.
