I discovered Friends while I was studying in UK. And I fell in love with the show. All the episodes were excellent. Hilarious, smart, the script was very well balanced. The characters were well defined and there is a central idea in the show: the life of 20something in the 90s. Their struggle to find jobs, their personal lives and their constant fun. I can not choose my favorite character. It was one of the shows I loved them all. I suppose it had to do with the fact that they were having a good time behind the scenes as well. I think one of the reasons it was such a success, it was that it reminded us the importance of friendship, of being with people you love and they ll accept you for what you are. I miss them a lot. Might just have to sing this to someone. totally not singing it to my bias wrecker. This show should be pulled off the air. Disgusting. I laugh everyday! My life is gonna be longer coz of F.R.I.E.N.D.S.

She is sweet and a humble octogenarion who is often involved in a murder mystery. The BBC series was on the air in the United Kingdom from 1984 to 1992 and was released in the United States courtesy of PBS Television. In a nutshell, Miss Marple is a woman who lives in the village of St. Mary Mead in England and is an amateur detective. On her travels across the English countryside she encouters many mysteries and unsavory characters with murder on their minds. When Marple stumbles onto a murder, she must use her instincts and high intelligence to find out who has perpetrated the murder, taking time to review the clues in her mind as she investigates a murder in each episode. Often enough, she encounters people who are not what they seem to be in reality, giving her the chance to figure out who is capable of commiting murder and who is not. Marple is careful, because investigating murder can be a dangerous undertaking for someone of her age. On one case she travels to the sunny Carribean Island of Barbados, only to find that three murders have occured during her stay. Another episode involves an older Hollywood actress who is a target of a murder plot. However, when another woman is killed instead of the actress, Miss Marple must sort out the details of the truth of the tragedy that are not printed in the local gossip rags. Only when Marple discovers that the actress has fabricated the whole attempted murder scheme by poisoning her own drink and giving it to an admirer. It only shows that Marple can sort out any sordid scheme and malignent plot that is concocted. Next to Hercule Poirot, Miss Marple is one of the time honored characters created by Christie. With the advent of DVD and BluRay distrubution, this series can be enjoyed at home by all members of the family. Sit back, press play and enjoy the show. Watch full length friends live. This is part 4 in a series about direwolves. Per length, It's broken into multiple volumes: V2 (ACoK) V3 (ASoS) V4 (ADwD. Series posts: Part 1: Lady/Sansa, Part 2: Grey Wind/Robb, Part 3: Nymeria/Arya, Part 5: Shaggydog/Rickon, Part 6: Ghost/Jon Recall this SSM. Q: Are all the Stark children wargs/skin changers with their wolves? GRRM: To a greater or lesser degree, yes, but the amount of control varies widely. Q: Yes, I know that Lady is dead, but assuming they were all alive and all the children as well, would all the wolves have bonded to the kids as Bran and Summer did? GRRM: Bran and Summer are somewhat of a special case. In this essay, well investigate how Bran and Summer are a special case.? My hypothesis is that theirs is the strongest bond simply because Bran seems to be the strongest telepath. ?Bran is the first and only Stark thus far in the story with the power to consciously enter the wolf and control his actions.? Arya actively uses a cats vision, but has yet to demonstrate full control or to consciously enter Nymeria. She did perhaps exert her will when she compelled her to save Catelyn, but that was a seemingly subconscious act in a dream.? Thus far, Ghost is in charge in all of Jons wolf dreams, although he does now remember them, and realizes that they are real. This essay is a line-by-line investigation of every mention of Summer in the text, including the wolf dreams and every thought Bran has inside the wolf.? In the first volume, we see how their bond initially develops similar to the other Stark-direwolf connections but how Brans powers develop faster due to his coma, the ministrations of other actors in his dreams. One thing that is pervasive in Bran, specifically, is his wish to be in a whole body. It shows up in his anger and shame at being called a cripple or pitied. It shows up in his penchant for staying way too long inside Summer's skin. It shows up in his unfortunate choice to repeatedly invade Hodor's body. It shows up in his reasoning for going to the three-eyed crow. It will be interesting to see if he finally accepts his own skin to some degree in the coming volumes. We see in the second volume how Brans realizes that his wolf dreams are real and, through the sensory deprivation in the crypts, how he develops the ability to enter his wolf consciously.? In the third volume, we see him develop this skill to a point where he can save Jons life, but we also see him follow the dark path of using this power over Hodor.? In the latest volume, we see how, under Bloodravens tutelage, he can use the power to enter ravens and finally to enter the collective consciousness of the weirwood net.? The development of these powers is unique to Bran among his siblings. While many other bloggers are wondering about and investigating (or inventing) foreshadowing of “Bran King”, I dont see a lot in his story with his magical growth and with his relationship to Summer that is related to this concept, so it is not considered here. We also get some direct wolf thoughts about the bond to the other direwolves from Summer.? We learn that he periodically senses his siblings.? This does seem to differ from a similar dream Jon has where Ghost seems to more strongly (certainly more vividly) sense his remaining litter-mates.? As an aside, we also learn how Neither wolf can sense the other(s) when one of them is on the other side of the wall.? We can assume that something about the magic of the wall disrupts their connection. Finally, several themes from our prior volumes continue here with Summer and his bond to Bran, including: Mirroring Brans personality and intelligence Obedience vs. Independence Shadowing / protecting / healthy fear of the wolves The wolves innate ability to sense threats Belonging to the pack / the instinct to hunt Being affectionate when theyre together Bad things happening when theyre separated Many of these themes are more visible in Bran and Summer given our access to the wolf dreams in the POV and the strength of their bond. A Game of Thrones ? A?Pup with no Name and?Bran the Broken In this volume we see how the bond between Bran and Summer forms immediately and strongly, then strengthens with further contact between the 2 and with Brans increasing powers.? Summer, indeed is an integral part of the discussion of Brans prophetic dreams in this volume, suggesting that he is somewhat aware of their nature. We see that the bond to Summer began forming immediately, the moment Jon hands him to Bran.? The mirroring begins in the next moment.? Hes dismayed at the idea that the pups would be slaughtered, saying “its mine. ” At the same time, Summer squirmed and understood (my highlighting below in the quotes. A Game of Thrones ? Bran I Bran gave the pup a quick nervous stroke, then turned as Jon said, “Here you go. ” His half-brother put a second pup into his arms. “There are five of them. ” Bran sat down in the snow and hugged the wolf pup to his face. Its fur was soft and warm against his cheek. […] “No matter, ” said Hullen. “They be dead soon enough too. ” Bran gave a wordless cry of dismay. “The sooner the better, ” Theon Greyjoy agreed. He drew his sword. “Give the beast here, Bran. ”The little thing squirmed against him, as if it heard and understood. “No! ” Bran cried out fiercely. “Its mine. ” […] Bran looked to his lord father for rescue, but got only a frown, a furrowed brow. “Hullen speaks truly, son. Better a swift death than a hard one from cold and starvation. ” “No! ”?He?could?feel?tears?welling?in?his?eyes, and?he?looked?away.?He?did?not?want?to?cry?in?front?of?his?father. Now Jon steps in to selflessly advocate for his pack.? This shows a lot about Jon and Brans relationship.? Bran “loved Jon with all his heart” for his selfless act in not including himself in the count for a pup.? This is an indication of the empathy that both boys possess.? Bran knows what it costs Jon; he can feel how it must hurt to exclude himself.? Fortunately, our author rewards Jon later with Ghost.? At the end of the passage, see how Summer mirrors Brans emotions again, squirming at Brans relief that the pups wouldnt be killed. “Lord Stark, ” Jon said. It was?strange?to?hear?him?call?Father?that, so formal. Bran looked at?him?with desperate hope. “There are five pups, ” he told?Father. “Three male, two female. ” “What of it, Jon? ” “You have five trueborn children, ” Jon said. “Three sons, two daughters. The direwolf is the sigil of your House. Your children were meant to have these pups, my lord. ” Bran saw his fathers face change, saw the other men exchange glances. He loved Jon with all his heart at that moment. Even at seven, Bran understood what his brother had done. The count had come right only because Jon had omitted himself. He had included the girls, included even Rickon, the baby, but not the bastard who bore the surname Snow, the name that custom decreed be given to all those in the north unlucky enough to be born with no name of their own. Their father understood as well. “You want no pup for yourself, Jon? ” he asked softly. The direwolf graces the banners of House Stark, Jon pointed out. “I am no?Stark, Father. ” Their lord father regarded Jon thoughtfully. Robb rushed into the silence he left. “I will nurse him myself, Father, ” he promised. “I will soak a towel with warm milk, and give him suck from that. ” Me too! ” Bran echoed. The?lord?weighed?his?sons?long?and?carefully?with?his?eyes. “Easy to say, and harder to do. I will not have you wasting the servants time with this. If you want these pups, you will feed them yourselves. Is that understood? ” Bran nodded eagerly. The pup squirmed in his grasp, licked at his face with a warm tongue. […] It was not until they were mounted and on their way that Bran allowed himself to taste the sweet air of victory. By then, his pup was snuggled inside his leathers, warm against him, safe for the long ride home. Bran was wondering what to name him. ? AGoT ? Bran I Note the indecision Bran has in naming the pup in both his first and second chapters.? I am not sure if this will end up being a character flaw, or was just a device the author used to place significance on the name Summer for some yet to be revealed reason.? Either way, well monitor Bran for future indecision. In the next chapter we get a hint of an independent streak in Summers lack of interest in chasing sticks couched with exposition of the pups high intelligence.? Bran, given his penchant for climbing whether forbidden to or not is independent himself, so this is an example of mirroring. A Game of Thrones ? Bran II But it was no good. He had gone to the stable first, and seen his pony there in its stall, except it wasnt his pony anymore, he was getting a real horse and leaving the pony behind, and all of a sudden Bran just wanted to sit down and cry. He turned and ran off before Hodor and the other stableboys could see the tears in his eyes. That was the end of his farewells. Instead Bran spent the morning alone in the godswood, trying to teach his wolf to fetch a stick, and failing. The wolfling was smarter than any of the hounds in his fathers kennel and Bran would have sworn he understood every word that was said to him, but he showed very little interest in chasing sticks. He was still trying to decide on a name. Robb was calling his Grey Wind, because he ran so fast. Sansa had named hers Lady, and Arya named hers after some old witch queen in the songs, and little Rickon called his Shaggydog, which Bran thought was a pretty stupid name for a direwolf. Jons wolf, the white one, was Ghost. Bran wished he had thought of that first, even though his wolf wasnt white. ? He had tried a hundred names in the last fortnight, but none of them sounded right. ? AGoT ? Bran II During Brans coma, Summer becomes a hero in saving both Cat and Bran from the catspaw.? First, though, hes heard in the yard ho

After a disappointing 29th place finish on the heels of back-to-back 30th place campaigns, things were looking grim in Edmonton and us loyal fans were starting to struggle to find some hope. A spark was delivered on April 10th, 2012 in the form of the draft lottery where, much to the dismay of Columbus Blue Jackets fans we won the right to pick first overall at the upcoming Columbus. Leading up to the draft, a promising young winger by the name of Yak City Nail Yakupov was turning heads by scoring goals seemingly at will on the Sarnia Sting and drawing comparisons to a great goal scorer that had played on the Sting a few season prior, Steven Stamkos. One Scottie Bowman even went as far as to compare Yak to Pavel fucking Bure. A stellar showing at the world juniors in front of 80, 000 Canadians right here in Alberta that past January had done nothing but elevate his status. Even as the buzz around young Nail grew and Yak cemented himself as the best available pick in the draft by most scouts, there were rumblings and debate among fans and experts alike about whether the Oilers should draft a high offense forward in Yak or a defenseman in Ryan Murray who would fill a glaring hole in the Oilers lineup. By the time the NHL draft came around, all signs pointed towards Head Scout Stu McGregor and the rest of the oil brass advocating for drafting Ryan Murray but on June 22nd, 2012, The oilers selected Nail Yakupov first overall. Years after the 2012 Entry Draft, rumours surfaced that Daryl Katz himself had forced the Oilers to draft Yak in an effort to build a high offense, 80s oilers-type of team, however that has never officially been confirmed by anyone affiliated with the club nor Katz camp. but lol you can assume Rounds 2, 3. 4 saw us draft Mitch Moroz; another Edmonton Oil Kings allumni, Jujhar Khaira; an ELITE prospect and Erik Gustaffson, a dman who would go on to carve out a decent NHL career albeit without playing a single game as an Edmonton Oiler. Just days after the Entry Draft, the Oilers hired Ralph Krueger as head coach. Krueger had no prior NHL experience but had coached the Swiss National Hockey team for over a decade. The daunting hole in our blue line was surprisingly filled via free agency 3 days after Kruegers hiring when we signed highly sought after college free agent Justin Schultz who reportedly turned way 26 other teams to sign with the Edmonton Oilers. The Oilers had managed to win the lottery twice in the span of a few months. In August of 2012, young stars Taylor Hall and Jordan Eberle signed near identical contracts with a 6 million dollar AAV each for 7 and 6 years respectively. With our young phenoms signed long term, a new dynamite right winger to compliment the rest of our skill forwards, a hard shooting, smooth skating, right handed d-man to get them the puck, and a brand new coach, things were looking good for the Oilers! Fans around the city had a renewed sense of hope and were ready for the puck to drop as soon as possible. then the lockout happened. On September 16, 2012, the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the NHL & and the NHLPA expired before the two parties could come to terms on a new one and the league thus entered a lockout. There were many issues between the two groups including the salary cap, contract lengths. front-loaded contracts among other things. Players took to twitter to voice their complaints that the owners would shut the league out while Gary Bettman and the owners maintained that the pllayers' association at fault. Regardless of who was to blame for the lack of hockey come October, the fans were the ones who suffered. (If you have 8. 5 minutes to spare and want to get hyped, I highly recommend watching this video) September - January Nevertheless, the lockout did bring some good. Hall, Nuge, Eberle and newly acquired Schultz all had the opportunity to go down to the Oilers' AHL affiliate, the Oklahoma City Barons and play together and learn from legends such as Mark Arcobello. The four Oilers lit up the A with Schultzy putting up 48 points (18G, 30A) and later winning the Eddie Shore award, the AHLs Norris Trophy equivalent, despite only playing in 34 games. While the fearsome foursome was with the Barons, the team went 18-12-8. In that same span, I, a hockey-starved first year university student with a penchant for procrastination, purchased NHL '13 and played every single game of the season en route to an 78-2-2 season and a thrilling 7 game series against Boston to win the cup. Who's to say which record is more impressive. Another bonus of the lockout was that some big names were able to attend the 2013 World Juniors in Russia. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, huge as always, Captained Team Canada and scored a tournament leading 15 points (4g, 11a) in 6 games. He would go on to face future teammate, Nail Yakupov and the Russian team for the Bronze medal where Nuge's 4 points (1G, 3A) proved to be insufficient against Yak & the russians who beat Canada 6-5 including two from Yak city himself. I, a nuge-starved team canada fanatic, couldn't help but feel a little bit of disdain for Nail after watching him shit on my team two years in a row at the world juniors. Just one day after that bronze medal game, the league announced that a new CBA had been reached and soon after it was announced the season would start on January 19th, 2012 with a shortened schedule of 48 games with zero cross conference games. Shit was about to get real. January Game 1 was played in Vancouver and the boys battled back from a 2-0 deficit to win 3-2 on the back of some filthy dangles from Hemsky and Gagner in the shootout. Game 2 brought a 6-3 spanking at the hands of the sharks with the only bright spots being Yak & Schultz both scoring their first NHL goals. Game 3 was against another California team: the LA Kings. Most of you already know what this game is famous for. The yak celly. I, like many others watching it live, will never forget that goal and that slide and the absurd criticism that followed it. But what I think is lost on many is the emotion and context of that game. The game started innocently enough but like most EDM-LAK games of that era, the Kings quickly started to take runs at our guys. There was some bad blood leftover from Doughty taking runs at Hall. The bigger guys on their team had a history of running our players and had started doing so early in this game. Halfway through the first, Nolan took a run at Eberle who absorbed the hit but tensions were already high and Ladislav Smid challenged Nolan to a fight and got himself wrecked in the process... Newly acquired Mark Fistric, laid a massive hit on Jordan Nolan later in that same period and you could tell things were getting hot on the ice. The rest of the game was marked with more hits and the oilers spanking the post a few times. Jeff Carter of the Kings put LA up by one off a power play. The Oilers had several chances but couldn't seem to tie the game. You could feel the energy and tension in the building rising even watching it on the screen from the safety of your mother's basement. Until late in the 3rd, when Nuge banged in a beautiful backhand feed from Ebs and sent the crowd into a frenzy. NUUUUUGE cheers echoed across Rexall as Burnaby boy skated for his fist while Jonathan Quick yelled at the ref that he had been interfered with. The goal was ultimately called back. The fans were unhappy to say the least I remember thinking to myself that it was absurd that people were littering the ice over a goalie interference call. I also remember that feeling of despair that had come to accompany the last few seasons starting to creep up. Why did we have such great luck in lotteries and such shit luck on the ice? Why can't we beat this fucking team? You had a sense that the people in the stands had similar negative thoughts brewing in their minds. And then Yak smacked all those doubts and negative thoughts out of midair and directly behind Quicks glove hand... With one swing of his stick, yak blasted an emotional goal and celebrated in a way that still haunts Don Cherrys dreams years later. Minutes later, Gags potted home the GWG on the power play in overtime to set that patented oilers optimism dial to OILERS and we were ready to go. January Record: 4-2-1, Overall Record: 4-2-1 February With February came some serious woes. They started the month by losing four in a row and it became apparent that Hall, Nuge, Eberle & Schultz had developped some bad habits while in the AHL. Hall and Eber especially had developed a knack for attempting drop passes to each other while entering the zone which almost always lead to a turnover and a chance at the other end. Poor defense and inconsistent goaltending from both Khabibulin and Dubnyk led to a tough month for the Oilers who went 4-5-3 but with one of the bright spots being a come-from-behind win against the Avs where the Oilers overcame a 3-0 deficit in the first period to win 6-4 in regulation. This game also featured one of Hemskys filthiest dangles and nicest goals. February Record: 4-5-3, Overall Record: 8-7-4 March March started even worse than February did. The Oilers lost 5 in a row to kick the month off with a -14 Goal Differential in those 5 games. After the 5th loss, sitting at 8-11-5 and watching their playoff hopes slip away, captain Shawn Horcoff called a players only meeting. Their next game was against the Blackhawks who were coming off their first regulation loss of the season. 27 games into the season. Im not sure what was said behind those doors but clearly Horcoff lit a fire under the boys as they came out roaring and scored 4 goals in the first period en route to a 6-5 win against the eventual Stanley Cup Winners. The loud win would also kick off a 6-2-2 run for the Oilers to

Artist: Billy Woods & Kenny Segal Album: Hiding Places Listen: YouTube Spotify Apple Music Tidal Zippyshare Background by /u/ItsBigVanilla Writing about Billy Woodss personal life feels like a betrayal, since hes taken extensive measures to maintain an aura of you-cant-even-see-my-face privacy within even the marginal underground bubble he exists in. That being said, the New York-based rapper was born in Washington, D. C. to a Jamaican mother who taught English literature and a Zimbabwean father described by the rappers official biography as “a would-be Marxist revolutionary. ” The cultural hodgepodge deepened even further when the family moved to Africa and eventually Zimbabwe, where his father served as a government official before his death and Woodss return to America at the age of eight. These early years have greatly informed his music, and listeners can frequently find references to Zimbabwe and global political history throughout his vast catalogue. And a vast catalogue it is. Woods began his solo career by releasing Camouflage in 2003 and The Chalice in 2004, after which he joined underground rap supergroup The Reavers, releasing various projects with them from 2005 to 2006. He then formed the always-underrated duo Super Chron Flight Brothers with fellow rapper Priviledge, and the group released a handful of projects that saw Woods coming into his own as an MC while honing the skills that would come to define his later career. SCFB capped their run with 2010s fantastic Cape Verde, the most fully realized moment of the Woods saga pre 2012. 2012 marked the beginning of a Woods renaissance (if obscure rappers that bounce between groups qualify for something as grand as a renaissance. It was this year that he released his first solo album in eight years, History Will Absolve Me to critical acclaim and a promotion from the rank of “nobody” to “nobody but with a masterpiece” (think Evan Dara, D. Keith Mano, etc. He quickly followed the project with 2013s Blockhead-produced Dour Candy as well as Half Measures and Race Music, both collaborative projects with rapper ELUCID under the moniker Armand Hammer. Woods and ELUCID had first worked together on History Will Absolve Me, and their chemistry as a duo propelled them into a collaborative relationship that has served as so much more than a footnote in their careers. Armand Hammer released an EP, Furtive Movements, in 2014, and Woods followed it up with his understated 2015 solo album Today, I Wrote Nothing. Woods released another Blockhead-produced album, Known Unknowns, in 2017: Armand Hammer released Rome later that year. Hammer drops Paraffin in 2018; Woods drops Hiding Places with Kenny Segal less than a year later. Fans still reeling from Hiding Places get hit with another solo project, Terror Management, within months. Armand Hammers last project came out just a year ago, and yet it already feels like theyve gone silent on us, lost in the maelstrom of Woodss output. If it isnt already clear, the man doesnt sleep, and in a miracle the likes of which hasnt been seen since the birth of the Christ child, none of these projects has been less than great. You still with me? Follow all those links yet? Okay, take a deep breath. Kenny Segal is, comfortably, one of the best producers alive. After growing up in Maryland, he moved to Los Angeles and studied audio recording at the University of Southern California. He began producing hip-hop for the L. A. -based rap collective Project Blowed, whose members include some of the best rappers working today, such as Busdriver, Open Mike Eagle, and Nocando. His fingerprints can be found throughout all of those artists discographies, especially as one half of The Kleenrz, a collaborative project between Segal and rapper Self Jupiter. Hes also produced for Milo and MC Paul Barman, among others. Segal is the ear behind many of the best rap songs and albums of the 2010s, and yet hes anything but showy. His true talent lies in contorting his style to match the artist hes working with, and a quick perusal of his catalogue demonstrates just how much of a musical chameleon he can be, all the while retaining a strong sonic identity which he emphasizes on his Kenstrumentals series, which can be found on his Bandcamp. On his 2018 solo instrumental project, Happy Little Trees, he gives a glimpse of an unrestrained self, managing to be equally compelling without an MC at the mic as he is with one there. Like Woods, he is a prolific force in underground music: in addition to Hiding Places, he produced the entirety of Hemlock Ernsts full-length solo debut, Back at the House, in 2019. Compare the two releases without any foreknowledge of their credits and youll be hard-pressed to conclude that the same producer crafted both of them; therein lies Segals genius. Segal and Woods have worked together in the past, but Hiding Places marks their first (and hopefully not last) project as a team. Every song is produced entirely by Segal except for “A Day in a Week in a Year”, which features additional production from Marcella Elyse Winn. According to Woods, the album had a long gestation period due to both artists busy schedules, and the time that went into crafting it is evident in the finished product. It should also be noted that both artists released great projects later in the year, as if this masterpiece wasnt enough; Woods went on to release a second album, Terror Management, and Segal collaborated with Future Islands singer Sam Herring for his debut album as rapper Hemlock Ernst, Back at the House. Now, enough preamble. Review by /u/ItsBigVanilla To Billy Woods, progression is inwardly focused. As the New York-based rapper continues to evolve and broaden his musical horizons, his projects have become increasingly claustrophobic, the mirror turning further towards his own blurred face. Woods hasnt yet reached the “living in a barn with cats” status reserved for enigmatic loner Aesop Rock, but hes just as self-aware. On Hiding Places, he takes aim at the usual societal ills that have plagued his work for years, but he does so in a way that feels much more individualistic than ever before. As the albums title suggests, the omnipresent themes of its 41-minute runtime are the things we hide and the places we keep them. Woods treats this literally at times ( Houthis “Moms showed us where she kept our passports hidden”) and figuratively at others, such as in “Steak Knives”, where his poor communication with friend leads to hidden feelings, the hidden realities of two men. Every song contains at least one reference to something thats been secreted away, but the rappers greatest trick is his ability to shroud his own humanity under lead sheets of irony and cynicism. For every confession, every emotional admission on the album, there are at least two punchlines set in place to soften the blow. On “Spider Hole”, for instance, Woods bellows “I dont want to go see Nas with an orchestra at Carnegie Hall”, referring to the legendary MCs actual 2012 charity performances. The line is funny, sure, but it implies so much more than meets the eye: an appropriation of rap, a white commodification of black art, a sense of disillusionment with heroes, a distaste for the genre in its current state. Are these interpretations all correct? Most likely not, but Woods hides them within seemingly innocuous lines at every turn. Which isnt to downplay the albums brilliant gallows humor. Would it be a bold claim to say that Woods is the funniest rapper alive? His comedy isnt jokes for jokings sake, its more of a reaction to a world so broken that theres no other choice but to grin. On “Checkpoints”, the best song of 2019, he raps “Quit my job to kick raps instead / So family meeting, everybody gotta start bringin in bread” right before producer Kenny Segal unleashes a sea of crashing cymbals that threaten to knock the track on its ass, startling the vocals into a desperate yell that works so well because words dont just come out of Billy Woodss mouth, they tumble out of it, they leap out of it. Its a moment simultaneously hilarious and horrifying, cathartic and stifled, climactic and inevitable; its one of the best bits of production the genre has to offer. In less grandiose moments, such as “Bigfakelaugh”, the rapper finds out that his insurance wont cover some unspecified treatment and tells his family to “I guess just forget it”, letting out an ad-libbed laugh so smugly jarring that you cant help but see the whole thing as some sort of cosmic trick being played on us all. A simple bar like this conjures up images of America, of blackness, of self-deception ? whats remarkable is that these themes that are only ever referenced implicitly, and yet they seep into the pores of Woodss work. Someone more concerned with unifying his review might say that theyre hidden in plain sight. And as the old saying goes, behind every great rapper is a great producer. Woods has proven to be a master of collaboration, and never has his chemistry with another artist been more apparent than it is here, with Kenny Segal. Segal owes much of his work on Hiding Places to rock music, his penchant for the power of live instrumentation apparent throughout the project. He deploys these elements sparingly, such as in “Spongebob”, where a guitar steps onto the scene like a man with a gun, takes a bow, then reappears again in the midst of a battle between shimmering synths and lonely, distorted bass. The interplay here is crucial: theres a duality in the albums production between grit and glitter, between heaven and earth, and Segal continually creates something just as gorgeous as it is menacing. “Speak
TL/DR: A completely for fun rambling look at some old ladies in ASOIAF and potential parallels in literature. (Mythological references primarily from Wikipedia. ASoIaF quotes from) Three old wise women are a recurring theme in mythology and literature. Often these three woman determine the destinies of men and gods. The Graeae of Greece known as “the grey ones”; the Moirai of Greece, or the Parcae or fates, the Roman evolution into the personification of destiny, past present and future; and the Norse Norns who ruled the destinies of gods and men watering the world tree Yggdrasill from the Well of Urdr (Well of Fate) and the Irish Morrigan, often described as a trio of individuals, all sisters, called "the three Morrígna. The Graeae The Graeae were daughters of the sea-deities Phorcys and Ceto (from which their name the Phorcydes derived) and sisters to the Gorgons. The Graeae took the form of old, grey-haired women. Their age was so great that a human childhood for them was hardly conceivable. the "well-clad" Pemphredo (Πεμφρηδώ "alarm" and the "saffron-robed" Enyo (?νυώ "horror" the "waster of cities" who also had an identity separate from this sisterhood) and Deino (Δεινώ "dread" the dreadful anticipation of horror. They shared one eye and one tooth, which they took turns using and were beings on whom no ray of sun ever looks down, nor moon at night. By stealing their eye while they were passing it among themselves, the hero Perseus forced them to tell the whereabouts of the three objects needed to kill Medusa (in other versions the whereabouts of Medusa) by ransoming their shared eye for the information. Hesiod says, “the Graiai, with fair faces and gray from birth, and these the gods who are immortal and men who walk on the earth call Graiai, the gray sisters, Pemphredo robed in beauty and Enyo robed in saffron. ” The Moirai Clotho ( ?klo?θo?/ Greek Κλωθώ [kl??t????] spinner" spun the thread of life from her distaff onto her spindle. Her Roman equivalent was Nona ( the ninth. who was originally a goddess called upon in the ninth month of pregnancy. Lachesis ( ?læk?s?s/ Greek Λάχεσις [lák?esis] allotter" or drawer of lots) measured the thread of life allotted to each person with her measuring rod. Her Roman equivalent was Decima ( the Tenth. Normally seen clothed in white. Atropos ( ?ætr?p?s/ Greek ?τροπος [átropos] inexorable" or "inevitable" literally "unturning" sometimes called Aisa) was the cutter of the thread of life. She chose the manner of each person's death; and when their time was come, she cut their life-thread with "her abhorred shears. Her Roman equivalent was Morta ( the dead one. The Morrígan The Morrígan is often described as a trio of individuals, all sisters, called "the three Morrígna. Membership of the triad varies; sometimes it is given as Badb, Macha and Nemain. Mor may derive from an Indo-European root connoting terror, monstrousness cognate with the Old English maere (which survives in the modern English word "nightmare" and the Scandinavian mara and the Old East Slavic "mara. nightmare. while rígan translates as "queen. This etymological sequence can be reconstructed in the Proto-Celtic language as *Moro-rīganī-s. Accordingly, Morrígan is often translated as "Phantom Queen. Her role was to not only be a symbol of imminent death, but to also influence the outcome of war. Most often, she did this by appearing as a crow flying overhead, and would either inspire fear or courage in the hearts of the warriors. In some cases, she is written to have appeared in visions to those who are destined to die in battle as washing their bloody armor. In this specific role, she is also given the role of foretelling imminent death with a particular emphasis on the individual. There are also a few rare accounts where she would join in the battle itself as a warrior and show her favoritism in a more direct manner. The Norns The Norns are female beings who rule the destiny of gods and men in Norse Mythology. The Völuspá, Prophecy of the Völva (Seeress) is the first and best known poem of the Poetic Edda. It tells the story of the creation of the world and its coming end. Urðr (Wyrd) Verðandi and Skuld, the three most important of the Norns, come out from a hall standing at the Well of Urðr or Well of Fate. They draw water from the well and take sand that lies around it, which they pour over the Yggdrasill tree so that its branches will not rot. These three Norns are described as powerful maiden giantesses (Jotuns) whose arrival from Jötunheimr ended the golden age of the gods. Beside these three famous Norns, there are many others who appear at a person's birth in order to determine his or her future. In the pre-Christian Norse societies, Norns were thought to have visited newborn children. There were both malevolent and benevolent Norns: the former caused all the malevolent and tragic events in the world while the latter were kind and protective goddesses. The Poetic Edda says about them (which I found interesting in this context) Fafnir spake: Of many births the Norns must be, Nor one in race they were; Some to gods, others to elves are kin, And Dvalin's daughters some. The three wise women of Westeros do not appear to be sisters at all, but rather “of many births”, and one is literally a dwarf (Dvalins daughter. I also think its interesting to note that it is from Urd that we get the word Wyrd, or weird, or weir. as in Weirwood. I would contend that the following three wise old woman of Westeros can be loosely equated to the various aspects of the these mythological trinities: Old Nan: “She was a very ugly old woman, Bran thought spitefully; shrunken and wrinkled, almost blind, too weak to climb stairs, with only a few wisps of white hair left to cover a mottled pink scalp. No one really knew how old she was, but his father said she'd been called Old Nan even when he was a boy. She was the oldest person in Winterfell for certain, maybe the oldest person in the Seven Kingdoms. Nan had come to the castle as a wet nurse for a Brandon Stark whose mother had died birthing him. ” -Game of Thrones, Bran IV Pemphredo ? alarm ? she who guides the way ? the well clad or robed in beauty The Grey Ones are ancient, although they may have once been “fair cheeked” or beautiful. I suspect Old Nan is Shiera Seastar, which fits with once being beautiful, being “well clad” or dressed which is one of the few descriptors we get of Seastar, and there is the Sea-god connection in her name. If Im right and Nan is the three eyed crow, she also attempted to show Bran the way. Nan is also Toothless and is nearly blind (eye color never given) but has a ‘third eye, and smells dragons when discussing the comet. Clotho ? The Past ? The Spinner ? The Ninth - Nona Old Nan is incredibly old, tells stories of the past, is always sowing (click click click) and originally came to Winterfell to care for a newborn Brandon Stark (the ninth is a reference to the nine months of maternity leading to childbirth. Badb ? Crow ? prophesized the worlds end ? “bean-sidhe” ( is a female spirit in Irish mythology who heralds the death of a family member, usually by wailing, shrieking, or keening. I dreamed about the crow again last night. The one with three eyes. He flew into my bedchamber and told me to come with him, so I did. We went down to the crypts. Father was there, and we talked. He was sad. ? Game of Thrones, Bran VII Obviously this is tied to my belief that Old Nan is the Three Eyed Crow, who is a messenger of death, and warns of the worlds end, “and now you know why you must live”. Urdr ? fate ? Past ? Urds well is the “well of fate” "You be quiet, stupid. the girl said, tossing her own branch aside. "It's just water. Do you want Old Nan to hear and run tell Father. She knelt and pulled her brother from the pool, but before she got him out again, the two of them were gone. After that the glimpses came faster and faster, till Bran was feeling lost and dizzy. He saw no more of his father, nor the girl who looked like Arya, but a woman heavy with child emerged naked and dripping from the black pool, knelt before the tree, and begged the old gods for a son who would avenge her. Then there came a brown-haired girl slender as a spear who stood on the tips of her toes to kiss the lips of a young knight as tall as Hodor. A dark-eyed youth, pale and fierce, sliced three branches off the weirwood and shaped them into arrows. The tree itself was shrinking, growing smaller with each vision, whilst the lesser trees dwindled into saplings and vanished, only to be replaced by other trees that would dwindle and vanish in their turn. And now the lords Bran glimpsed were tall and hard, stern men in fur and chain mail. Some wore faces he remembered from the statues in the crypts, but they were gone before he could put a name to them. -Dance with Dragons, Bran III Nan is not only a fixture of Winterfell, with its heart tree above the still cold pool, but she is always telling stories of the past, and even featured in a vision of the past through the tree of Winterfell including the pool. Ghost of High Heart: Beside the embers of their campfire, she saw Tom, Lem, and Greenbeard talking to a tiny little woman, a foot shorter than Arya and older than Old Nan, all stooped and wrinkled and leaning on a gnarled black cane. Her white hair was so long it came almost to the ground. When the wind gusted it blew about her head in a fine cloud. Her flesh was whiter, the color of milk, and it seemed to Arya that her eyes were red, though it was hard to tell from the bushes. "The old gods stir and will not let me sleep. Deino ? Dread ? the terrible "I dreamt a wolf howling in the rain, but no one heard his grief. the dwarf woman was saying. "I dreamt such a clangor I thought my head might burst,
She literally doesnt look like her. 2:37 Chandler. hahahahahaha. Watch Full Length friendship. Watch Full Length friends for life. Im early. Rowdy shouts of encouragement and trash talk blared from within the training room just down the hall, giving those eating in the mess hall a loud, if not unpleasant background track to listen to. Sentries came in, still armoured from their recent patrols and hungry for a meal; a maintenance crew debated the best way to fix a particularly uncooperative plumbing line; others simply chatted amongst themselves in their off hours, but everyone on the ship knew to stick to their species. This prevailing wisdom left the two Sthiss in the mess hall to eat in relative peace; their long, scaly bodies curled onto benches barely able to support their immense weight. "I can't wait to get back into the jungle. said Solaythsn longingly, the lingering, earthy flavour of locally sourced Laku Rat on his tongue. "It's just you, the bush you're in, and the poor little Thoyuks that crosses your path. You wait for it to stop for just a moment and BAM! You're eating like a Clutchfather. He whipped his arm forward to simulate the motion, cheek frills glowing with aggressive orange light. "I know how you feel, but you signed up for this, and now you have to commit. Kskoth explained calmly as he diced his Laku into smaller chunks for easier digestion, but his squadmate across the table went on, enraptured in recalling his past hunts. "The way their bones snap as they go down is just so satisfying, and you get that warm feeling when their hooves start digesting- Oh, it's wonderful. But no"?In an instant, Solaythsn's expression changed; his frills switching from an ecstatic lime green to a more somber, almost angry burgundy?"there would've been no problems with me going out to hunt, but we had to be stuck here in a human base. His final outburst drew some eyes from human personnel, but the crew was used to it at this point. Kskoth laid his utensils down. "Sola, you know why we're he. Yes I do! We're all members of the 'alliance' and we 'need to preserve unity by defending freedom side-by-side, even in these peaceful times. He waved his tail mockingly as he spoke. "Toss it on a pike! We could do that ourselves, but the Highfather had us team up with these tiny things! ?Solaythsn gestured to a passing technician, who returned a piercing glare?"We can snap them in half! What can they do. Kskoth firmly planted his hands on the table; his frills glowed an ominous blue. "If you had any self awareness, you would realize that it's exactly this kind of arrogance that makes us allying with humans a good idea. Arrogance? It's not arrogance if you can back it up, and I'm telling you, I can mop the floor with any human on this ship. Kskoth's eyes narrowed. Solaythsn was right about Sthiss being physically superior to humans in most every way; with strength and speed that on average outclassed anything humans could deliver, weight that made them all but immovable, eyesight that made the dark a non-issue, and paralyzing venom as the tool that made them the apex predator back on Aloths; no human could ever measure up to an adult Sthiss, let alone one trained for combat like Solaythsn. He thought back on his training, looking for a weakness he knew was there, something to check his squadmate's ego, but he found nothing. He relaxed his posture, knowing that he wouldn't convince anyone without solid arguing points, let alone one as self-important as Solaythsn. The din from down the hall subsided, and a group of human soldiers flooded the mess hall, sore from their training. Solaythsn looked at the passing humans with scrutiny, scoffing at their claims of discomfort and grunts of pain as they shuffled forward in the food line. Their instructor walked in behind them, talking to a soldier beside her. left leg open, you're too easy to trip up. Fix that quick or you're dead the instant you're in close combat. She dismissed the soldier, who quickly joined his squadmates in line. She looked on at her trainees with a mix of pride and concern. "Her. said Solaythsn, a flash of orange in his frills. "Sergeant Hale? What about her. Kskoth had an inkling as to the nature of Solaythsn's question, but needed confirmation. "She's tough for a human, yeah. She's the close combat instructor, she has to be. As little as he wanted Solaythsn to go through with it, he would never have gotten away with lying about that. "Alright then. With those words, Solaythsn dropped from the bench and slithered on his belly over toward the human woman, his cheeks pulsing orange. Kskoth went to go after him, but felt a hand press in on his stomach before he could lift himself off the bench. A human, the same that Solaythsn had pointed to earlier as an example of weakness. He sternly looked Kskoth in the eyes. "Let him. I wanna see this. Kskoth watched as his squadmate close in on Hale and considered stopping him, but stayed where he was, both to satisfy his curiosity, and because Hale had noticed the Sthiss approaching. Solaythsn curled his tail behind him as he saluted his superior. "Madam Sergeant, may I ask something of you. Hale turned to the reptile, the lack of urgency or tension in her posture or speech didn't stop her from exuding authority. "At ease. You may. I believe my close combat skills are beginning to wane; may I trouble you for some one-on-one training. Solaythsn suppressed any ill will his voice could have portrayed. A moment passed as Hale silently studied Solaythsn. "Alright. Come on then. Thank you, sir. The orange that flushed Solaythsn's cheeks increased in luminescence as his frills waved with delighted anticipation. Solaythsn had seen humans fight before, their tiny appendages weakly colliding with their soft bodies over and over again for minutes at a time, it was exhausting. Sthiss fought with quick, powerful strikes; quick and powerful enough that most duels between Sthiss ended with one or two blows. This fight was over before it began. The pair exited the mess hall, closely followed by Kskoth and the human technician, and made their way down the corridor and to the nearby training room. Turning into the room, machinery of all types lined the walls, facilitating any possible exercise one may ever need. The center of the room was empty, save for a few thin floor mats. Hale led Solaythsn to the chamber's center, before turning to the Sthiss, her eyes stern as she looks up at the reptile. "I know what that colour in your cheeks means"?Solaythsn was taken aback slightly, but he couldn't complain; he now had to put no effort in keeping up appearances, and let his demeanour show his inner thoughts. ?"So let's do it: First to give in or get knocked out loses. No lethal strikes, so that means no venom, and nothing that can permanently injure. Solaythsn expected rules along those lines, but was disappointed nonetheless. Still, he acquiesced with a nod, and took ready position; crouching low to match his prey's height, arms bent at his sides, ready to lunge. His time on Aloths came back to him, all those times he sat patiently in the shrubbery, waiting for just the right moment to strike, this was no different. Hale looked around, spying Kskoth. "You there, come here a moment. said Hale, pointing her finger at Kskoth, who complied with his superior's request. "You will referee this match, are you aware of the rules I stipulated. Yes, sir. Kskoth's heart began beating faster, knowing the likely outcome will land Solaythsn, and likely himself, in hot water with the local warrant officer. He was not, however, going to disobey an order now, and took position away from the two combatants. Hale spread her feet; crouching slightly, instinctually raising her hands to intercept attacks to the head. She looked the reptile over, taking in his stance and probable angles of attack. Her eyes locked with Solaythsn's and all doubt of whether this fight was going to happen was washed away. "Are the combatants ready. said Kskoth, throwing a nervous glance to the stern-faced technician to his side. "Yes. replied the pair in unison, not daring to break their gaze. Kskoth raised his arm and counted down. "Three. Two. One. Kskoth swings his arm down. "BEGIN. In an instant, Solaythsn lunges forward, using his strong tail as a spring to launch himself at speeds that would catch most humans, and even Sthiss, off guard. Solaythsn makes a conscious effort to keep his mouth closed so as not to bite Hale, fighting every instinct he had honed back on Aloths, and instead shoots his arms forward to grab the human before she has a chance to escape. Hale, however, had done her research. She knows there is no way she could take a Sthiss in a straight fight, and focuses her mind on evasion. She leaps up over the Sthiss's arms and lands on his back as his momentum carries him far past Hale's starting position. Solaythsn responds by violently undulating his body, throwing Hale off balance and leaving him the opportunity to twist his upper half around and lunge again. He finds it oddly taxing, but no big deal. Without a moment to hesitate, Hale drops her body down, lying prone on the reptile's body as his lunge passes by overhead. Before Solaythsn could use his new position to constrict Hale, she pushes herself off the Sthiss and onto the floor, silently thanking his subtly rough scales for giving her the grip needed to effectively shove herself aside. Solaythsn slams the perpendicular lengths of his body together in an endeavour to trap Hale, but finds that she is elsewhere. He whips his head around, looking for his prey. His eyes sweep past Kskoth, picking up a blur of aqua green emanating from his cheeks, a sign of concentration. He brushes his squadmate's mental processes aside and focuses once more on the hunt Hale calls a fight. Hale takes the moment her opponent's eyes are off her to leap toward the reptile, her eyes on it's neck. Nothing can resist a chokehold for l
Witness 18. Where is his testimony. But he's sooo adorable ??. Just pouring out admission. I know we meant all good intentions. I just loved Friends, it was funny and lovable with a hint of seriousness about it. Joey was just cute and funny, Rachel was beautiful and daring. Ross was romantic. Friends is just one of those shows you can relate to, it caught most of everyday life little problems onbs regular bases and that helped it form a connection with its viewers. LOL you completely nailed Joey's expression at 2:12, just perfect.
Thank you for delaying the stream for an hour, so I can watch this beauty. 0:07 there was a shark. When the part of the golf club piece came off something went on my windshield. I love how chandler said: I don't think the contestants are allowed to talk to each other.
