I'm yet to find an anime that I love, and The Tale of the Princess Kaguya isn't it. I just don't connect to ancient Japanese culture and all of its downsides are in the story. The character work is solid, but it's archetypal stuff and still nothing that digs deep in a relatable way. This is just a type of whimsy that I don't enjoy, and at 2 hours, it's more of a chore. But at least it's a pretty chore. No doubt you marvel at the animation, especially during the dramatic running sequences. The fluttering music tends to match the lightness of the visuals. I respect Takahata, as I do for Miyasaki, but his Graves of the Fireflies did nothing for me as well. Outside the man hours put into it, Kaguya is nothing special.

I'm so grateful to my dad who introduced me to Miyazaki's early works when i was very young. Getting to grow up, ride the emotional and wonderfully brilliant rollercoaster of each story, and enjoy each and every work that the studio has produced, it's truly been a privilege. I just wish i could forget, have another chance to rediscover these films, so that i can end up falling in love with them again. From returning the spirit of the forests' head to falling through the toxic jungle, i will be re-watching these movies for quite a long time.
The wind rises is a inspirational movie to me because I always dreamt to be a pilot and kept making plane models but my right eye started to get short-sighted so I couldn't be a pilot which upset me a lot and I even cried about but when my friend told me to watch this which I did, the movie made me cry and happy because I can still work with plane even though I'm short-sighted in my eye. So instead of flying with plane, I just build planes.
