Photo courtesy of When funding for San Jose’s beloved Christmas attractions were cut, the local community rallied together to keep old traditions alive. Thus, the annual? Santa Run?Silicon Valley was born. Now in its fifth year, Santa Run continues to attract those who love the holidays, as well as those who wish to save Christmas in the Park and Downtown Ice from elimination?a real risk due to cuts in municipal. Silicon Valley Leadership Group Foundation, produces the family friendly run every year with the help of local volunteers. This season, the festivities will kick-off Sunday, Dec. 18, at 1pm. The kids’ “Reindeer Run” starts an hour later at 2pm, and the main event?the official “Santa Run Silicon Valley” 5k?begins at 3pm. Participants of all ages are invited to dress up. In the past, costumes have ranged from Santa and Mrs. Claus to ornaments, dreidels and menorahs. A costume contest will follow the 5k run. Weather can be unpredictable, so warm clothes are always recommended. Children’s book donations will be collected at the event for the literacy intervention nonprofit, Reading Partners. After the run, are invited to create more memories. There will be a photo booth and ice skating under the palm trees at Downtown Ice. Christmas in the Park will be in full swing, providing live entertainment and the notorious hot chocolate snowmen.
