[11] Plot [ edit] In Kota, Rajasthan, a young psychopath, Sunny, kidnaps a young girl Latika through deceit. He brutally tortures, and rapes the girl, and later kills her. The next day, S. P Shivani Shivaji Roy examines the case, citing that it was through a belt that she was killed, and there were major bruises in the internal, as well as external parts of the body. Sunny meanwhile works for a politician, Vipul Beniwal, to kill his opponents, and through T. V, comes to know about Shivani, who promises to find Latika’s killer. Sunny hires Pravin, a tea seller near the police station, to help in the murder of a journalist. While Sunny kills the journalist, Pravin takes the latter‘s wife in a car to a faraway area near a slum, and they both die in a suicidal blast by Pravin. Sunny takes the place of Pravin as a tea-seller, in the name of Bajrang. Shivani brings a boy Lahanya from the slum to the police station, who is also a witness to the blast. When Lahanya is about to explain the details of the killer, his stomach starts to ache and he wants to go the washroom, due to the poisoned milk brought by Sunny. Sunny, who was already in the bathroom, kills Lahanya. Sunny lures the media towards himself, and Shivani quickly points out, that Sunny is doing this only for fame and pleasure. The police finds yet another body of a girl raped and tortured by Sunny, and slowly, the police keeps on receiving tantrums from the media and public. This hatred increases because of the police’s carelessness when a girl, the grandchild of a politician, Govind Sharma, is about to be killed but gets rescued. Due to all this, Shivani is transferred from Kota. However, because the new S. P is to arrive in the next 2 days, Shivani remains as an S. P for 2 more days, and strives to find Sunny within these 2 days. Sunny now, heads to kill Shivani, and pretending to be gravely injured by someone else, he gets lift from her in her car. When he is just about to throttle her neck with a belt, Shivani stops him and gets to know that the tea seller Bajrang is actually Sunny. However Sunny escapes injuring her, but the latter recovers. She comes to know through a senior, Brij Shekhawat, that Sunny would most probably now kill the ’over-smart’ lady politician Sunanda Chaudhary, as Sunny had warned Shivani that he would now kill someone ‘over-smart’ like her. The next morning, in a press, on the questions being raised on her being a ‘female-SP’, she gives a speech on how every time, due to prejudices, women are always under-estimated, and that people like him (shrewd reporter Amit Sharma) can never understand their importance. The police goes behind Sunny, who has kidnapped Sunanda from a public place. At the night of that day, which is Diwali, when Shivani is busy finding Sunny, she finds an odd home, where there are no great decorations nor lamps. She goes in for inspection, and finds that the daughter of the owner of the house, has also been taken hostage in the uppermost room, along with Sunanda, by Sunny. When she asks them why they let Sunny do this, they say that he will kill their daughter if they don’t let him do his work. Shivani goes upstairs, but is knocked unconscious by Sunny and hit by him. She inflames Sunny by reminiscing him about his past which she got to know through his father in Meerut jail. Years ago, Sunny’s father had killed Sunny’s mother on the terrace, and Sunny actually had told his father that his mother had run away towards the terrace. Shivani signals Sunanda to throw the nearby buckets of paint on Sunny, as he is an asthmatic patient. They do so, and Shivani brutally injures Sunny though his own belt, and with the nearby crowd watching her, she has conveyed her message. To endure Mardaani 2, the viewers need to have a strong appetite. Unlike the female cops portrayed in Bollywood thus far, the cop in Mardaani 2 is as real as real can be. Director Gopi Puthran's Mardaani 2 is one of those rewarding surprises that break established standards without tripping or succumbing to feminist appeals and clichés. The film escapes stereotypes. It is a film for all audiences, appeals to everyone with an intricate and stimulating plot, stunning action scenes and competent cast. In a world where - fortunately - women have more and more space, what until a few decades ago would have been unthinkable has been happening: we do have action films with strong female protagonists. This is the case of Mardaani 2 as well, which, even with occasional slips, consolidates itself as a work of good technical action - as well as fun and full of energy. it is commendable that the script (Gopi Puthran) establishes Rani Mukerji as a strong character - physically and psychologically - featuring in a variety of memorable action scenes and a series of keen moments, as she is not only good at fighting but also smart and shrewd. Mardaani 2 grabs your attention from the commencement itself and never relents. Gopi Puthran's screenplay is replete with several intense episodes, which eventually make Mardaani 2 a good versus evil battle as the protagonist makes her way to the baddie behind the baddies. The stewing wrath of the protagonist is delineated convincingly while the director also incorporates ample emotional baggage that would cause you to associate with the on-screen characters. Seen in the present setting of the brutality against ladies in society in general and India in particular, a motion picture like Mardaani 2 couldn't have released at a superior time. While it may appear to glorify the brutality here and there, a hard-hitting motion picture like is the need of the hour. Mardaani 2 raises awareness of issues like the safety of women and the gender inequality that exists in society. It also motivates ladies to look within to trigger their very own bold soul. The very well-executed culmination is realistic to the core, like the rest of the film. In fact, director Gopi Puthran manages to keep you hooked for most parts, without ever getting formulaic. Also, his stance to sidetrack the soundtrack is indeed courageous and commendable. The customary audience, so used to the mandatory songs each 15/20 minutes, may whimper at first, but let's be honest, similar individuals likewise protest if songs wreck the story when the dramatization escalates. Also, director Puthran resorts to realistic brutality to enhance the overall impact. The background score (John Stewart Eduri) is perfect and never goes overboard. A virtuoso act, indeed! In a lesser entertainer's hands, the written material would not have been so ably conveyed. The film's antagonist Vishal Jethwa is a revelation. He's absolutely intimidating and menacing all through. In spite of being hollowed against a powerhouse entertainer like Rani, Vishal ensures he leaves an ineradicable impression, playing a cold-blooded criminal. Also, his rustic Rajasthani accent is bang on, just enough to add more menace. With a run time of just under 2 hours, Mardaani 2 is a barnstorming, shocking and outstanding film all in all. It might be a bit over the top at times but director Gopi Puthran keeps the scenes tight and tense through his terrific screenplay. The film acts like a sledgehammer. Book your tickets, pronto.
