All the family is excited, especially Clara and Freddie who are looking forward to seeing their friends and Father Christmas. Clara is especially excited about seeing her best friend Charlotte whilst their mother and big sister Louise look on fondly. Outside people skate on the frozen Thames. The Party Dr Drosselmeyer, a rather mysterious old family friend, arrives. With him is his nephew, fresh from Military School. The guests arrive, presents are starting to gather under the Christmas tree and the children’s excitement builds. Dr Drosselmeyer introduces a puppet theatre, in which puppets perform to the delight of the guests. Louise and her three admirers are inspired to dance by the puppets’ performance. Dr Drosselmeyer presents Clara with her Christmas present ? a Nutcracker doll. Clara is thrilled and begins to dance with her new much-loved gift. Freddie grabs the doll so enthusiastically from Clara that he manages to break it. In despair, Clara turns to Dr Drosselmeyer for help. He, as if by magic, manages to put the doll back together again. Clara is delighted and forgives her brother. The guests depart, the children go up to bed and the house becomes eerily quiet. The Battle Clara has a nightmare in which her Nutcracker is attacked by the evil Mouse King. The clock strikes midnight. Giant rats and mice led by the Mouse King appear as the living room undergoes a transformation. The Nutcracker becomes a dashing soldier and a battle between the two sides ensues. The Mouse King and his army are victorious and the Nutcracker is injured. Everything melts away to leave Clara and the Nutcracker alone as snow starts to fall. The Land of Snow The living room is magically turned into a winter wonderland filled with sparkling snowflakes. Clara dances with the Nutcracker who seems to be Drosselmeyer’s nephew. The Mouse King pursues Clara through the snow. Clara, the nephew and Dr Drosselmeyer escape in a balloon, flying across the glistening, frosty landscape with the Mouse King clinging onto the side. Act 2 The Puppet Theatre The balloon lands beside the puppet theatre. Dancers from all over the world representing China, Arabia, Russia and Spain come to life and leap out of the theatre. The Mouse King is finally vanquished by the heroic nephew and a magnificent celebration begins. The dancers perform divertissements. The puppet theatre disappears to reveal a beautiful garden, amongst which dancers perform the Waltz of the Flowers. Finally, Clara dances a glorious pas de deux as the Sugar Plum Fairy with the nephew as the Prince. They are joined by all the characters from around the world. Suddenly Clara wakes up with a jolt back in her bedroom. Freddie and Clara run outside into the snow to wave a final goodbye to Drosselmeyer and his nephew. Will you also post this December's nutcracker as well. What a lovely performance! Just a pity parts were excluded, such as the overture and the final epilogue. Magniphique vraiment beau. Un grand merci. Supreme dancers! however, a dancer's life span is shorter than premier footballers for example! Amazing dedication for such limited time! But thank you Bolshoi Ballet for your commitment to showing the world the greatness of dance! Long live Bolshoi Ballet. Photos Add Image Add an image Do you have any images for this title? Edit Storyline Very much like the other two Bolshoi versions choreographed by Grigorovich. However, this is the only one of the three versions shot on widescreen and HD, so the colors are far more vivid and the picture practically jumps out at you, despite the fact that it's not in 3-D. The same sets (or exact duplicates of them) are used, but they don't look as shabby as in the earlier Bolshoi versions. The costumes are only very slightly different. Two minor changes have been made to the choreography. In the second act, the Nutcracker Prince and the Mouse King (who does not die onscreen in this production) do not descend through a trap door in the floor. Instead, the Nutcracker Prince chases the Mouse King offstage and returns a few minutes later triumphantly holding the King's crown. The end is also slightly different. As in the usual Bolshoi version, in the dream, Marie marries her Nutcracker Prince, but then abruptly wakes up. However, in this revised production, rather than waking up alone,... Along with Tchaikovsky’s cherished score and some of the world’s best dancers, Toronto International Ballet Theatre’s performance preserves the imperial beauty and grandeur of the original Nutcracker, and will transport children and adults alike to a world of magic and wonder! For over 11 years Toronto International Ballet Theatre has been bringing together young talented dancers and itnernational stars, to perform in professional productions with spectacular sets and beautiful choreography by renowned choreographer and former Prima Ballerina Tatiana Stepanova. Sheer, exquisite joy and delight, absolutely magnificent performances by the Bolshoi Ballet guest stars, and polished beautiful work by each and every dancer. As for the costumes… those mice!! All totally inspiring! We walked out of the theatre, with the world feeling like a lighter brighter airier place. What a way to launch the holiday season! This show uses a combination of local professional Toronto dancers, young pre-professional ballet studio dancers and guest dancers from some of the worlds best ballet companies. We enjoyed the show so much we are bought tickets for the 2016 show the day they went on sale. Our favorite parts were snow scene, the Arabian pas de Deux was mesmerizing and of course Sugar Plum and the Nutcracker Prince. This year the guest dancers are 2 Principal dancers from Bolshoi Ballet… does not get any better! The Nutcracker, as choreographed and performed by TIBT as always was magical, and beautiful. The sets, costumes, and music were all fabulous! Looking forward to it again next year! Favourite moment: The baby Mice in the battle scene were adorable, the way they were scurrying back and forth! Wonderful performance by all dancers. Loved the Russian soloists. Costumes were spectacular. What a pleasure it was to finally enjoy the highest quality of ballet dancing executed by the local company other than NBC. The group and the solos were danced in sync and with high precision, the decor and the costumes were just stunning. Amazingly, the cast was not overly big and many dancers were engaged into a few scenes, which shows you how high their quality is and how smart the show is planned out. The choreography was very creative and interesting to watch. Personally, I am glad to discover a local company that treasures the classical ballet in it’s pure form at a such a high quality and I wish there was more than just the Nutcracker presented by this company, as I believe TIBT could be an alternative to the NBC’s contemporary stream. Favorite moment: snowflakes, waltz of the flowers, solos The performance of the Toronto International Ballet Theatre of the Nutcracker was just amazing. Everything was done to perfection; the dancing, the music and the decoration. We went as a family with my wife and 3 teenager kids and enjoyed every moment. It was a night to remember. Well done! Have been wanting to see this for years, not disappointed, will be taking my grand-daughters to see it Great choreography and excellent execution! All performers made this production heartwarming and fun experience! I have seen many ballets and many different productions of the Nutcracker, this was by far the BEST!!! The version that was done was absolutely beautiful!! I was in awe, I would definitely see it again! Nutcracker was fabulous!!! A?must-see with friends &?family.
