I've seen this film twice now and fortunately both times it was on the big screen with a theater packed with people (just as the movie making gods intended. As I was driving to the film last night for my second viewing of it, I was trying to remember the plot and I couldn't really recall it. A few minutes into the movie I realized I couldn't remember the plot because there really isn't much of a plot to remember. Despite the lack of plot. even by musical standards. this movie never really drags and is quite entertaining. Besides the musical numbers, it is fun to watch the interaction of all the family members. The character of "Tootie" has a wickedly gleeful edge to her that is rarely found in child parts, and is but one of many elements that makes "Meet Me In St. Louis" a classic film. When the film ended last night the entire audience applauded, and deservedly so.
