This sub has helped me a lot and I just want to pay it forward by sharing my story. Me Before Becoming Pregnant I am a 22-year-old in a committed relationship with the person I think I am going to marry. We work well together, but I'll admit we aren't as sexually safe as we should be. On July 1st, 2019, I had my first abortion. I did the medical process since I caught it early and was able to be in and out of the clinic in a good amount of time. I went to Carafem in Washington D. C. It was an emotional time for me, and I swore to my boyfriend that if this ever happened again, I would keep it because the entire process took a lot out of me. Finding Out I Was Pregnant In mid-December last year, I had a dream. In that dream, I had a son and he looked exactly like my boyfriend. I woke up in a cold sweat and immediately bought several pregnancy tests. While buying the tests, I realized I was late. I had not noticed since I had just finished finals and I tend to become irregular around times of stress. The lines were faint, but they were there. I went into panic mode. I was still healing from the first time and that was only a few months prior. I felt hate for myself and resentment toward my boyfriend. I was just so angry. A few hours later, I started throwing up. I was terribly ill and I felt like I was going to die. There had been a bug going around my college during finals, so I thought I had just finally caught it. There was no way a potential pregnancy, let alone one this early, could make me feel this much pain. I shared the news with my boyfriend. He was devastated as well. We plotted what our next move would be and knew that I had to go back on my word from before: I needed to have another abortion. The thing is, I was only traveling during the summer when I had my initial procedure. I live in a state with very strict laws. I started researching to see exactly what I had to do, created a checklist and a timeline that I wanted this all to happen. Get an ultrasound to confirm my pregnancy. Find a care provider at a reasonable price. Schedule a consultation appointment (which must occur at least 24 hours before your procedure). Choose between medical and surgical. Hope to all things good and righteous that I can actually do this again. I quickly found a clinic that accepted my insurance and I was able to get a free ultrasound there to confirm my pregnancy. This was the beginning of January. The website was non-descript and just seemed to be a typical women's clinic, reminiscent of Planned Parenthood (who not only does not accept my insurance but would not have been able to schedule me for THREE WEEKS! ) The Christian Health Clinic My boyfriend and I were greeted by a lovely receptionist who recognized my voice and knew my name before I even signed in. She took my driver's license, insurance, and asked me to fill out some paperwork. The place was clean and she offered us water and granola bars. I only had to wait 5 minutes after finishing my paperwork before I was called back! The first woman I spoke with was a counselor. At the time, I thought this was because I shared on my paperwork that I was still dealing with the sadness of my first abortion. I was naive and thought this was a good sign: they cared about their patients! I told the woman I was set on getting another abortion and just needed to get an ultrasound as per my state's law. She was understanding and gave me several pamphlets on tracking your cycle and birth control. Again, these women have been so kind to me and I am just glad to have someone listen to me. I thought I hit the jackpot! The ultrasound was standard. The technician joked with my boyfriend and I and was so nice. They took my blood to check my hormone levels. I was scheduled for a follow-up (my choice) since she said she thought I was at a high risk of miscarriage because of my family history of endometriosis. I thanked her for her time, and as I walked out she shook my hand and said "Bless you. " My boyfriend gave me a look and I shook my head at him. It was odd, yes, but I genuinely did not see any red flags. I went back two times after that because I could not afford an abortion and my hormone levels were so low they kept insisting I would miscarry. The Procedure When I was finally able to have my consultation appointment, three weeks later, I was 8 weeks along. The facility I visited was dirty with rude staff and just an all-around bad vibe. I kept wishing to myself that the clinic I had been visiting, who treated me with such kindness, had offered abortions. They were the ones that told me about this place, and I wondered why. I waited 2. 5 hours for my consultation. By the time I got in I was slightly irritated but listened through my state's laws. I was only in my actual consultation for 20 minutes. I scheduled my procedure for the following Friday, Valentine's Day. My Bloodiest Valentine's Day Weekend I found out at the office that day (after waiting another 2. 5 hours), that I needed to get the Rhogam shot. Holy fuck, that was the most painful thing I've ever felt. Then they gave me the first pill and sent me on my way with some pain meds, literature, and a really shitty pep talk about how I would be fine. My boyfriend and I had a romantic Valentine's dinner at my favorite place. I was feeling crampy and nauseous, but I stuck out eating because I was starving. We went home and watched some TV when I ran to the bathroom and threw up what I thought was everything I had ever consumed in my life, a kidney, and possibly an ovary. I sat next to the toilet in a pain so absolute I began to dread the next day. My boyfriend played with my hair until I fell asleep and I woke up the next day prepared to take the pills. My boyfriend surprised me by getting us a hotel so I could have privacy and a larger bathroom. It had a cute kitchenette and a bed that felt like a dream. We stocked up on underwear, snacks, and I purchased myself some leggings I wouldn't mind getting blood on and a new heating pad. We watched some TV and I braced myself for what was to come. Taking the Misoprostol * I put all four pills in my cheeks. I was scared of feeling vomiting, so I took great caution in swallowing slowly and only small amounts. After about 25 minutes, I felt intense, sharp cramps and teared up a bit. As much as my pregnancy had been ruining me day by day, I started to realize the gravity of the situation. After my 30 minutes were up I swallowed the rest of the pills with some water, plugged in my heating pad, and took deep breaths. I was not bleeding or even peeing. I quickly became worried that the pills hadn't worked and that I had done something wrong. I posted here on Reddit and was quickly reassured. About 20 minutes after writing that post, I felt a little burst in my stomach and my boyfriend and myself rushed to the toilet. No blood, but I saw it. I burst into tears and then the blood started. My pain shot up and I was just a bumbling mess. I piled on pads and could not even put the leggings on, so I waddled back to the bed and pressed the heating pad onto me for comfort. I was in so much pain that I did not want to be touched, so my boyfriend just watched me as I cried while watching TV. I took another ibuprofen and shut my eyes and started to cry again. The pain was terrible. I managed to sleep for about ten minutes before I had to go to the bathroom after leaking onto the bed. I opted to sit on the toilet for a few minutes while some clots passed. At this point, my boyfriend went out to get us some dinner and I was grateful to have a few minutes alone. The ibuprofen was starting to kick in, so I went back to bed and curled up in all the blankets because I was freezing. After eating a little bit, I fell back asleep. I woke up several times throughout the night to change my pad, but I felt that the worst of it was over. My boyfriend and I went back home the next day. The car ride was not easy but I stuck it out. My head no longer felt cloudy and I just felt better. As sad as I was, I started to realize that this was all for the best and I comforted myself with that fact. A Bloody Monday Fast forward a day: I am sound asleep after a long day of work and class. I am suddenly awoken by the worst cramping sensation. I literally fall off of my bed because I try to get down and go to the bathroom but my legs don't work. I catch my breath, then find that I have no breath. It feels like I'm having a panic attack, but with physical pain where I don't usually have physical pain. I crawl to the bathroom and realize I am leaving a pool of blood behind me like some fucked-up snail from Hell. I still can't breathe. I manage to force myself up on the toilet and out comes a steady stream of blood from inside me. When I say stream, I mean stream. This was not just gently coming out, it was flowing. My first thought is "Okay. I need to go to the hospital, " but I am too scared to get in a car. The blood eventually lets up after a few minutes and I move myself to the floor, prop my legs up on the toilet and breathe in and out slowly. The pain is getting better with each breath, so I focus on my center and just think to myself that this will all be over soon and I can get back to bed. After an hour of this, I finally feel enough strength to use my legs. When I stand up, I feel something pop out of me and then I hear a plop on the floor. I look down and see this volatile abomination of cells. It was bigger than a lemon, about the size of an orange. I poked it out of some curiosity with my bare hand. It was hard and did not break like a blood clot would have. I stare in awe at this thing that fell out of my body, take a picture to send when I call about this in the morning, pick it up with toilet paper and flush it down. I go back to be
