abstract: The original BBC program Doctor Who began airing in 1963, and continued into 1989, making it the longest running sci-fi program, and indeed one of the longest of any genre in TV history. An unsuccessful attempt was made by Fox to revive it in 1996. BBC tried again in 2005, and this attempt proved successful. The program follows the adventures of a Timelord, one of a race of humanoid alien beings from the planet Galifrey. His/her name has never been revealed--he/she is known only as "The Doctor". He/she travels through time and space in a "Tardis", which stands for "Time And Relative Dimensions In Space". It is much bigger inside than outside. In his/her travels, he encounters various monsters such as the Daleks, the Cybermen, and a renegade Timelord known only as The Master (or Missy as timelords can change gender too). Several different actors have starred as the Doctor over the years. This is explained in the storyline as "regeneration". When the Doctor faces death, he/she cheats it by literally becoming a new person. The supporting cast also changes periodically &ref(https://m.media-amazon.com/images/M/MV5BZWJhYjFmZDEtNTVlYy00NGExLWJhZWItNTAxODY5YTc3MDFmXkEyXkFqcGdeQXVyMTkxNjUyNQ@@._V1_SY1000_CR0,0,629,1000_AL_.jpg) 190979 Vote Runtime: 45Minute User Rating: 9,5 / 10 Stars.
Its possible that its the doctors daughter regenerated. Remember, they loose thier memory when they first re-generate. So its possible after she shot off into space, she got killed someone, regenerated and the only name she could remember is the doctor. Watch doctor who the movie. One of the most iconic sci-fi shows in history, Doctor Who has quite the fan following. But not every season of the BBC series is worth watching. Due to the fact that Doctor Who is one of the longest-running?sci-fi series of all time, the show has obviously had several highs, lows, and forgettable seasons altogether. For fans of the show, or even potential future fans who are thinking of watching?the series, it is important to know which seasons are vital in the show's canon and which are best avoided in order to save time. With Doctor Who, this is even more important?because there are over 38 seasons of the beloved science-fiction drama. This article will list five seasons of Doctor Who you should watch and five you should skip. 10 Watch: Season 5 (Revival) The fifth season of Doctor Who was monumental in the show's history. Not only was it Matt Smith's first season in the TARDIS, but it was also the first season after the revival with?Steven Moffat replacing Russell T Davies as showrunner. The season established one of the most compelling series arcs of all time, with the fresh-faced young Doctor having to contend with cracks in the universe and the phrase "silence will fall" following him across space and time. 9 Skip: Season 11 (Revival) Season 11 is undoubtedly one of the most important in the show's history, acting as the start of the Chris Chibnall era and the introduction of the first female Doctor. While it is important to watch the first episode in the season for these reasons, several episodes in the show are skippable due to the lack of an overarching story arc. Season 11 is largely like an island in its relation to the wider Doctor Who canon as nothing really occurred that changed or impacted the?future of the series. 8 Watch: Season 13 (Classic) Tom Baker's Fourth Doctor is one of the most popular of all time, with Baker continuing in the titular role of the Doctor for almost seven years, resulting in?several iconic stories. While fans are often torn between season 13 and 14 of the show, this entry has opted for season 13 as season 14 features a horrifically racist interpretation of Chinese people. 7 Skip: Season 23 (Classic) The Colin Baker era of Doctor Who is one of the least popular runs in the show's history. Fans disliked the character of the Sixth Doctor almost immediately after the Time Lord stood up after regenerating and started to strangle his companion, trying to kill her in the process. It's important to say that this is not Colin Baker's fault at all; the writing during his run was indicative of a decline in the show's overall quality that would continue through the Sylvester McCoy era, leading to the show's eventual hiatus in 1989. 6 Watch: Season 1 (Revival) The first season in the revival is unmissable due to the fact that it helped introduce a whole new generation to the Doctor, laying the groundwork for plot threads that would continue to be important throughout the revival, such as the Time War, Bad Wolf, and the return of the Daleks. It's a shame that Christopher Eccleston didn't continue in the role of the Ninth Doctor as he has proved to be one of the most popular incarnations of the Doctor ever. 5 Skip: Season 24 (Classic) Sylvester McCoy was the Seventh Doctor, and portrayed the Time Lord for just over two years before the show, due to poor reviews and ratings, was placed on an indefinite hiatus.?It wouldn't return as a full series until Russell T Davies revived the series in 2005. Again, much like the Colin Baker era, Sylvester McCoy's time in the TARDIS was hampered by both poor writing and a disliked companion in the form of Mel. 4 Watch: Season 3 (Revival) The third season of Doctor Who after the revival was one of the most memorable and important in the show's history. Aside from Martha Jones (Freema Agyeman) making history as the Doctor's first black companion, the season also included the return of the Master, Captain Jack Harkness, and the Daleks. In addition to the return of the Master and the Harold Saxon storyline, the series also features some of the greatest Doctor Who stories?of all time including "Blink, " "Human Nature, " and "The Family of Blood. " 3 Skip: Season 22 (Classic) Much like the other Colin Baker season already featured on this list, this season was a collection highs and lows, though with far more lows than highs. While the series should be praised for its prediction of reality TV in its story "Vengeance on Varos, " there were several irredeemable features. Storylines such as "Timelash" were dull and overly complicated, making the story more of a chore to watch than an actual entertaining activity. 2 Watch: Season 2 (Revival) Season 2 may be the most iconic season of Doctor Who to date. The season stars both the iconic Tenth Doctor and the incredibly popular Rose Tyler in what would ultimately become her final season. While the season includes terrible episodes such as "Fear Her" and "Love and Monsters, " the impact of this season on the Doctor stays with him throughout his Tenth incarnation, making it a vital watch. Furthermore, this season also introduces the Cybermen to the modern revival of Doctor Who, giving them a new backstory for a new generation and even having the Cybermen face off against the Daleks in the thrilling season finale. 1 Skip: Season 26 (Classic) This season would ultimately be the last in the classic era of Doctor Who, and it was a real shame that the show failed to make much of an impact with its final season, though this would be indicative of the eventual hiatus that Doctor Who would experience until 2005. While this season did build on the relationship between the Seventh Doctor and Ace, there was very little in terms of compelling story that makes this season worth watching, aside from the fact that it was the final season in the classic era. Also, why didn't the Doctor offer to take Graham to the best hospital in the Universe. Over it's 56 year old runtime Doctor Who had many seasons and many spin offs, but the most notable two are: Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Abventures. The reason these two show are the most notable(other than them being the best) is because they can highlight the shows ability to be interesting to all ages. The Sarah Jane Adventures being really family-friendl(except for the nightmare man) even more then the original DW, because while Doctor Who is still ff it is rather in the middle while Torchwood is for a more mature audience with it's darker tone and more complex narrative. The Doctor Who review: DW is a truly special show. Not just because of it's insane runtime or the genius idea of the regeneration witch can always keep the show fresh and also able to explain the changes of actors but because of it's insane foreshadowing across many years that give for one of the most exciting and coolest reveals and big events(Doctor 12, River Song, Day of the Doctor) it's amazing! The show had it's ups and downs whit RTD bringing it back and making it the best show ever, then Moffat coming and continuing it, then in S7-S10/S33-S36 making it worse, but still really good. Then in S11/S37 came Chibnall. The person who we all trusted and thought will make the show amazing again ended up ruining it. S11/S37's boring awful writing is the reason I only rated the show a 9/10. Overall still go watch it(and if you like it go back and watch the previous 26 seasons) just skip S11/S37.

The programme depicts the adventures of a Time Lord called " the Doctor ", an extraterrestrial being, to all appearances human, from the planet Gallifrey. The Doctor explores the universe in a time-travelling space ship called the TARDIS. Its exterior appears as a blue British police box, which was a common sight in Britain in 1963 when the series first aired. Accompanied by a number of companions, the Doctor combats a variety of foes while working to save civilisations and help people in need. The show is a significant part of British popular culture, [2] [3] and elsewhere it has gained a cult following. It has influenced generations of British television professionals, many of whom grew up watching the series. [4] The programme originally ran from 1963 to 1989. There was an unsuccessful attempt to revive regular production in 1996 with a backdoor pilot, in the form of a television film titled Doctor Who. The programme was relaunched in 2005, and since then has been produced in-house by BBC Wales in Cardiff. Doctor Who has also spawned numerous spin-offs, including comic books, films, novels, audio dramas, and the television series Torchwood (2006?2011), The Sarah Jane Adventures (2007?2011), K-9 (2009?2010), and Class (2016), and has been the subject of many parodies and references in popular culture. Thirteen actors have headlined the series as the Doctor. The transition from one actor to another is written into the plot of the show with the concept of regeneration into a new incarnation, a plot device in which a Time Lord "transforms" into a new body when the current one is too badly harmed to heal normally. Each actor's portrayal is unique, but all represent stages in the life of the same character, and together, they form a single lifetime with a single narrative. The time-travelling feature of the plot means that different incarnations of the Doctor occasionally meet. The Doctor is currently portrayed by Jodie Whittaker, who took on the role after Peter Capaldi 's exit in the 2017 Christmas special " Twice Upon a Time ". Premise Doctor Who follows the adventures of the title character, a rogue Time Lord from the planet Gallifrey who goes by the name " the Doctor ". The Doctor fled Gallifrey in a stolen TARDIS ("Time and Relative Dimension in Space"), a time machine that travels by materialising into and dematerialising out of the time vortex. The TARDIS has a vast interior but appears smaller on the outside, and is equipped with a "chameleon circuit" intended to make the machine take on the appearance of local objects as a disguise; due to a malfunction, the Doctor's TARDIS remains fixed as a blue British police box. Across time and space, the Doctor's many incarnations often find events that pique their curiosity and try to prevent evil forces from harming innocent people or changing history, using only ingenuity and minimal resources, such as the versatile sonic screwdriver. The Doctor rarely travels alone and often brings one or more companions to share these adventures. These companions are usually humans, owing to the Doctor's fascination with planet Earth, which also leads to frequent collaborations with the international military task force UNIT when the Earth is threatened. The Doctor is centuries old and, as a Time Lord, has the ability to regenerate in case of mortal damage to the body, taking on a new appearance and personality. The Doctor has gained numerous reoccurring enemies during their travels, including the Daleks, the Cybermen, and the Master, another renegade Time Lord. History Doctor Who first appeared on BBC TV at 17:16:20 GMT on Saturday, 23 November 1963; this was eighty seconds later than the scheduled programme time, due to the assassination of John F. Kennedy the previous day. [5] [6] It was to be a regular weekly programme, each episode 25 minutes of transmission length. Discussions and plans for the programme had been in progress for a year. The head of drama Sydney Newman was mainly responsible for developing the programme, with the first format document for the series being written by Newman along with the head of the script department (later head of serials) Donald Wilson and staff writer C. Webber. Writer Anthony Coburn, story editor David Whitaker and initial producer Verity Lambert also heavily contributed to the development of the series. [7] [note 1] The programme was originally intended to appeal to a family audience [8] as an educational programme using time travel as a means to explore scientific ideas and famous moments in history. On 31 July 1963, Whitaker commissioned Terry Nation to write a story under the title The Mutants. As originally written, the Daleks and Thals were the victims of an alien neutron bomb attack but Nation later dropped the aliens and made the Daleks the aggressors. When the script was presented to Newman and Wilson it was immediately rejected as the programme was not permitted to contain any " bug-eyed monsters ". According to producer Verity Lambert; "We didn't have a lot of choice?? we only had the Dalek serial to go... We had a bit of a crisis of confidence because Donald [Wilson] was so adamant that we shouldn't make it. Had we had anything else ready we would have made that. " Nation's script became the second Doctor Who serial?? The Daleks (also known as The Mutants). The serial introduced the eponymous aliens that would become the series' most popular monsters, and was responsible for the BBC's first merchandising boom. [9] The BBC drama department's serials division produced the programme for 26 seasons, broadcast on BBC 1. Falling viewing numbers, a decline in the public perception of the show and a less-prominent transmission slot saw production suspended in 1989 by Jonathan Powell, controller of BBC 1. [10] Although it was effectively cancelled with the decision not to commission a planned 27th season, which would have been broadcast in 1990, the BBC repeatedly affirmed, over several years, that the series would return. [11] While in-house production had ceased, the BBC hoped to find an independent production company to relaunch the show. Philip Segal, a British expatriate who worked for Columbia Pictures ' television arm in the United States, had approached the BBC about such a venture as early as July 1989, while the 26th season was still in production. [11] Segal's negotiations eventually led to a Doctor Who television film, broadcast on the Fox Network in 1996 as an international co-production between Fox, Universal Pictures, the BBC and BBC Worldwide. Although the film was successful in the UK (with 9. 1?million viewers), it was less so in the United States and did not lead to a series. [11] Licensed media such as novels and audio plays provided new stories, but as a television programme Doctor Who remained dormant until 2003. In September of that year, [12] BBC Television announced the in-house production of a new series after several years of attempts by BBC Worldwide to find backing for a feature film version. The executive producers of the new incarnation of the series were writer Russell T Davies and BBC Cymru Wales head of drama Julie Gardner. Doctor Who finally returned with the episode "Rose" on BBC One on 26 March 2005. [13] There have since been ten further series in 2006?2008, 2010?2015 and 2017?2018, and Christmas Day specials every year since 2005. No full series was broadcast in 2009, [14] although four additional specials starring David Tennant were made. Davies left the show in 2010 after the end of series 4 and the David Tennant specials were completed. Steven Moffat, a writer under Davies was announced as Davies' successor along with Matt Smith as the new doctor. [15] In January 2016, Moffat announced that he would step down after the 2017 finale, to be replaced by Chris Chibnall in 2018. [16] The tenth series debuted in April 2017, with a Christmas special preceding it in 2016. [17] The 2005 version of Doctor Who is a direct plot continuation of the original 1963?1989 series [note 2] and the 1996 telefilm. This is similar to the 1988 continuation of Mission Impossible, [18] but differs from most other series relaunches which have either been reboots (for

As much as I had issues with Moffat, it was better than the crap we're getting now. I think Chibnall and the BBC are purposely trying to already have destroyed Doctor Who. Possible theory: The timeless child could have been told that he or she was progenitor of the Time Lords, like when the Doctor said that they became Time Lords due to the prolonged exposure to the time vortex and with the multiple generations, hence the Timeless Child is the first Time Lord, the Timeless Child could have possibly been experimented, tortured or something else when the time rift opened so he or she could stay that way 'immortal' while the others leach off he or she hence is why the Time Lords have regeneration.
Theres something about the Doctor that I think is pretty indescribable. Every actor to play the role has had this look in their eyes, this incredible sparkle, it's a look of mischief, it's a look of love, it's a look of loss. Even the Classic Who doctors had this look and tbh idk how it's done I just know it when I see it. I haven't seen that twinkle in Jodie yet but I hope it'll come soon, shes a good doctor nonetheless and this Mystical twinkle certainly isn't a defining factor of a doctor, I just think its something casting directors should look for. That's why I think Pheobe Waller Bridge would be an incredible Doctor, just look at her eyes. 1996 doctor who movie watch online. Doctor who 1996 movie watch online free.

Like how since there's no companions, they literally have the Doctor expositing directly to the audience, just nailing in how Chibnall hasn't the ability to show and not tell.
I love this scene. 3:29 II. If anyone thinks that Ruth is an incarnation before Hartnell and canon will be destroyed, just remember Chibnall said in a recent interview he's fully aware of canon. I think this whole Timeless Child and Ruth plot will be something completely different to what we are expecting and especially some YouTube channels which thinks that the rumor is a certainty for some reason. Just let the story play out. I can't wait to see what happens. Also, even if Chibnall does change canon, it's still no where near the retcons that Steven Moffat did. Although I liked a lot of his stories and loved both Capaldi and Smith, Moffat will hold the record for biggest retcons regardless of what Chibnall does.
