２−ブロモ−３−ヘキシルチオフェン，２−クロロ−３−ヘキシルチオフェン　５位のCH結合をマグネシウムアミドまたは触媒量の二級アミンとGrignrd反応剤を用いてメタル化し，続いてニッケル触媒を加えると，頭尾構造がhead-to-tail型に制御された　ポリ（３−ヘキシルチオフェン）が効率的に得られる。

Highly regioregular head-to-tail-type poly(3-hexylthiophene)s are obtained by the reaction of 2-bromo(chloro)-3-hexylthiophene by deprotonation at the 5-position with magnesium amide (cat. secondary amine+Grignard reagent) and following addition of nickel(II) catalyst.
