This legend is about the Monolith, which may be what caused the Zone to appear. When the Zone exploded in 2006, they evacuated people living near it and the Zone itself was cordoned off by the Army. Everyone was panicking, nobody knew what was going on, the Zone was expanding and the field labs couldn't do anything! Loads of people died there. Everyone was afraid of the radiation which could affect half of Europe. After a few years had passed, some reckless guys like you appeared. They called themselves stalkers. They started to sneak past army cordons believing that there are things in the Zone that would make them rich. Bit by bit, they brought out weird things, artifacts and which eventually turned out a race for them. Scientists went after them like crazy. They paid fantastic money for just one trinket back then, not like now.

When the Zone had just appeared many people were trapped inside and cut off from the outside world. Most of them died pretty quickly but there were a few lucky survivors who tried to do something about it. One of these survivors found himself by the station and noticed some strange light inside. With no way back he decided to try to get closer. He saw the broken roof of the sarcophagus and the light coming out through it. He climbed up the wall and looked inside. Among the debris of metal and molten concrete there lay a massive black rock. It was the Monolith. The stalker managed to shake off the "spell" and realised that he had climbed very close to the sarcophagus, which was highly radioactive. He was scared to death but through the fear he could sense the Monolith calling to him. The Monolith called to him and he came to see strange, unbelievable things about the Monolith inside his head...

Zone が出現した時、多くの人が内部に囚われ外界と隔絶された。殆どは直ぐに死んだようだが事態に対処すべく動いた幾らかの幸運な生存者も居た。震源地の近くに居た生き残りの一人が内部からの奇妙な光に気が付いたらしい。戻る道も無く光に近寄るしかなかった奴は壊れた石棺の屋根から光が届いてるのを見た。そして壁によじ登り内部を覗き込んだらしい。無数の金属と溶けたコンクリートの残骸の中に巨大な黒い岩石があった。これが Monolith だ。何とか「呪文」を振り払った時、ようやく高い放射能の残留する石棺へよじ登っているのだと気が付いた。死の恐怖に怯えたが、恐怖の中で Monolith に呼び込まれたのだと気が付いた。Monolith からの呼びかけによって奇妙な、信じられない物を奴は見たらしい……。

Duty is basically controlled from the outside by the government. Their current objective is to clear the territory of mutants and destroy Freedom, which is what they are doing at the moment. When the time is right, they will drop a large assault force in the Zone and take control of the area.

The government needed the datas, but UHSF refused to give out the documents so they set a brain manipulator at yantar, to protect their lab, but after a serious accident, they left the area and continued their work in Limansk. They had good connections with the X18 lab, and X10, so they got everything they needed. I guess you should look around those areas for more evidence...

After a week he returned, and he said, he managed to disable this brain emitter so the area is safe now. I guess he was looking for something. I asked the professors at the mobile lab in Yantar, but they didnt know anything about this guy. If i'm not mistaken, at the x16 lab the UHSF was experimenting with viruses and other stuff. They killed many dogs, and cats and civilians. Some of them turned into a zombie after they turned on the emitter. Those poor guys, they will never rest in peace. Although they are very dangerous since they can use weapons too. So be careful if you go there.
