報道記事では簡潔に述べる必要があるため、「インテリジェントデザイン」運動について記事を書く場合、一文でインテリジェントデザインを定義・説明することになる。

それらはわりとDiscovery Instituteの公式な表現に近いものもあるが、大きく離れたものもある。

わりと、Discovery Instituteの主張に近い例:

インテリジェントデザインは、「生命形態のある特徴があまりに複雑であり、インテリジェントな高次パワーが起源とすることで、最もよく説明できる」と主張する。
