最も有力な創造論ミニストリAnswers in Genesisは、COVID-19について奥の記事を書いている。

2020年5月16日時点で、世界全体で、感染者4,516,360名、死者306,051という多大な犠牲を出し、それもロックダウンを行って経済にダメージを与えて、ようやく抑え込まれた数字である。この事態について、創造論者たちは「神の不在を意味するものではないこと」「悪の身を為すようなものを神は創造しないこと」を主張しようとするようである。

How Disease and Death Entered Creation (創造に病気と死がどのように入ったのか）

In the roughly 6,000 years since that time, death and suffering have plagued our world, often literally. One of the ways this has happened is through the effects of viral illnesses and other infectious diseases. Things have indeed gone horribly wrong. As we live out our lives in this sin-cursed world, we know that every one of us is already living under the sentence of death from the moment our lives begin. While we continue living and loving, caring for each other, discovering the secrets of science, creating things that improve the world, and enjoying the many blessings, activities, and relationships open to us, we all know that our days are limited. One day we will die. Death is the ultimate enemy, and it will surely snatch us away from those we love (1 Corinthians 15:26). Death will leave behind a gaping hole in the lives of those who love each of us.

Death entered the world because of mankind’s sin. God, in his perfect justice, could not just change the rules once man rebelled. Yet God in his mercy did create hope beyond death (Romans 5:19). God, in his grace, did provide a way to restore the broken relationships between sinful man and holy God, a way to demonstrate his love for every person. Jesus Christ, the Son of God, became human to bear the curse of death on a bloody cross. He then defeated death by rising from the dead. As we will soon sing in our Easter celebrations—even if we do so in live-streamed church services or small home gatherings— “Up from the grave he arose!” Anyone who trusts in the sacrifice Jesus Christ made on the cross can have confidence that after death, they too will live eternally forever in heaven.

The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 15:56–57).

一方で、偶然や無意味な被造物はありえないとの立場から、ウイルスに「意味」を見出そうとする。

What does the Bible say about viruses, and where do they come from in God’s creation? Although viruses are not mentioned in the Bible, the microbial world in which viruses are active is mentioned. For instance, microbes like yeast and bacteria are used in many fermented food products, and fermented drinks and bread are mentioned as well. Both yeast and bacteria have viruses, which may actually foster these fermentation processes. Recently, fermentation genes were discovered in a virus.5 And good viruses that help eliminate bad bacteria in fermentation products are also being explored6.

Leaven is mentioned in Bible illustrations demonstrating spiritual principles. And the growth of the kingdom of heaven is related to how leaven works, a positive example (Luke 13:20–21). This is probably a reference to yeast that we use in the making of bread. Again, in our world, we find many microbes being involved in beneficial activities, even viruses.

聖書はウイルスについて何と言っているのか、そしてウイルスは神の創造のどこから来たのか？聖書はウイルスについて書いていないが、ウイルスが活動している微生物の世界には言及している。例えば、酵母やバクテリアのような微生物は多くの発酵食品に使用されており、発酵飲料や発酵パンについて、言及している。酵母と細菌の両方にウイルスがあり、実際にこれらの発酵プロセスを促進する可能性がある。最近、ウイルスに発酵遺伝子が発見された。そして、発酵産物中の悪玉菌を排除するのに役立つ良いウイルスも探究されている。

We can truly say then that most viruses are supporting life on earth. We serve an amazing Creator who has established a life-supporting microbial-based biomatrix that supports life on earth.9 So, it should not be surprising that our Creator uses the smallest but most abundant creature on earth, the lowly bacteriophage virus, to support life.

I believe even the coronavirus was created for beneficial purposes on earth, and creation scientists can help solve the puzzle of disease-causing viruses by looking for their original good purpose. That will help us know more about how this virus operates in nature. May we pray that the Lord helps all researchers to find a cure for COVID-19, and may we reach out to our neighbors with the hope of Christ!
