人類がいなくなって、文明を維持保守することがなくなると、文明の痕跡は消え去ってゆく。

発電所は1日程度は動いているが...


発電所は燃料切れで24〜48時間で停止する。

2 Days (2日後)
With no electricity, the pumps of the New York City subway system turn off and stay off.
電力がなければ、ニューヨークの地下鉄システムのポンプは停止する。
Even without rainfall, the subways would begin to fill with water.
たとえ雨が降らなくても、地下鉄は水浸しになる。



Erosion of the underside of the streets would begin.
Some streets would start to buckle.
道路の下では浸食が始まる。


都市の外観はそのまま...



7 Days (7日後)
Nuclear reactors burn or melt down as their water-cooling systems fail.
原子炉は冷却水システムの停止により、燃えるか、メルトダウンを起こす。

1 year (1年後)
Street pavements split and buckle as water in the cracks freezes and thaws.
道路の舗装は、隙間に入り込んだ水の凍結融解により割れていく。

2-4 years（2〜4年後)
In New York and other cities, water erosion from already filled subway tunnels combine with tree root damage to cause some streets to collapse.
Clogged sewers lead to new water courses on the surface of the streets.
New rivers form in Manhattan's street grid.
ニューヨークやほかの都市は、水浸しの地下鉄などからの水による侵食のダメージを受け、道路は崩壊し始める。

5 years (5年後)
Craked and leaking gas lines will also lead to catastrophic and uncontrolled fires.
Exploding gasoline tank from vehicles and gas stations futher fuel the raging flames.
ガス管が割れたり、漏れたりして、破滅的かつ制御不能な火災が起きる。
自動車やガソリンスタンドのガソリンタンクの爆発はさらに火災を大きくする。



20 years（20年後)
The street above the Lexington Avenue subway line completely collapses into tha water-filled tunnel and forms the Lexington Avenue River.
レキシントンアベニュー地下鉄線の上の道路は水浸しのトンネルへと完全に崩壊し、レキシントンアベニュー河になる。


100 years（100年後)
The roofs of nearly all houses have caved in, accelerating the deterioration of the structures.


300 years
Even the mighty Brooklyn bridge would gradually fall victim to the elements.
Without constant painting and maintenance, rusted metal would accumulate in the brdige's expansion joints and the roadway would eventually collapse.
雄大なブルックリンの橋も、徐々に風雨の犠牲になる。
定期的な塗装とメンテナンスがなければ、錆びた金属が橋の伸縮継手に蓄積し、最終的には道路が崩壊する。



500 years
Mature forests cover the New York metropolitan area.
ニューヨークのメトロポリタンエリアが森林におおわれる

As the casings of nuclear warheads corrode, radioactive plutonium 239 is released into the environment.
原子炉容器が壊れて、放射性プルトニウム239が環境へ放出される。

New York has been scoured by glaciers three times in the past 10,000years. Humanity's recent contributions to the atmosphere may somewhat delay the arrival of the next ice age, but it will ultimately come.
The few remaining stone walls left in Manhattan, like St. Paul's Chapel, build from hard schist, will then be crushed.
過去1万年で3回にわたり氷河に襲われる。人類による大気圏への影響により、次の氷河期の到来は遅くなるかもしれないが、いずれはやってくる。
セントポール寺院のようなマンハッタンの残された石壁も破壊される。



35000 years（3万5000年後)
Lead deposited in the soil from automobile emissions in the 20th century finally dissipates.
20世紀に自動車から放出され土壌中に置かれた鉛が消え去る。

100,000 years　（10万年後）
The concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere returns to preindustrial levels.
大気中の二酸化炭素濃度が工業化時代以前の水準にもどる

10,000,000 years （1000万年後）
Some sculptures and statuary may end up in the water.
Though they will be slightly chemically alterer, and possible encased in barnacles, they will remain intact indefinitely.
いくつかの彫刻や彫像は水中に残るだろう。少し化学的に成分が置き換わり、フジヅボに侵入されるかもしれないが、無傷のまま残るかもしれない。



1,000,000,000 years（10億年後）
New forms of life appear.
新しい形体の生物が出現する。


5,000,000,000 years（50億年後）
All remnants of human existance cease to exist save one: in deep space, speeding away at the speed of light, broadcasts of television shows, faint and fragmented, still travel outward, past our galaxy and through the universe.
人類が存在した痕跡は、ひとつを除いて全て消滅する。深宇宙を光速で飛び去るテレビ放送電波が、かすかに、我々の銀河を離れて、宇宙を旅する）
