Dan Woren
In the 1985 Robotech adaptation of thefirst Macross series, Roy's portrayalwas toned down for American audiencesby producer Carl Macek. He keeps hisoriginal name, but it was written as"Roy Fokker." His basic persona wasthe same in both series, thoughdetails differed. Episode 18 wasrenamed "Farewell Big Brother". [9] TheRobotech version of the character wasvoiced by Dan Woren.
Wildstorm's 2002-2003 Robotech comicseries developed a background storyfor this character that was differentfrom the background in Macross. Inthis version, Roy was the chief testpilot in the VF-1 development program, and as a potential symbol for thenascent United Earth Government(renamed from the U.N. Government inMacross), was the target of a numberof assassination attempts by the Anti-Unification movement, including atleast two ambushes during his flighttests of the YF-1 (known as twoseparate vehicles in Macross, the VF-Xand the VF-X-1). He survived bothattempts on his life, including thecrash of his prototype Valkyrie whiletesting the Guardian (known as GERWALKin Macross) configuration.
After his crash, the Valkyrie programwas officially canceled in favor ofProject Excalibur, a design project todevelop Destroids (walkingbattroid/battloid tanks); however, theanti-unification hijacking of the"Armor-One" space carrier gave him theopportunity to prove the VF-1Valkyrie's worth once and for all; helaunched on the unofficial and highlyillegal orders of Captain Henry J.Gloval, using the first production-model VF-1 (a VF-1S that would be hismount for the rest of his life), andended the threat to the SDF-1 bydestroying the bridge of the hijackedcarrier and shooting down the reflexmissile it had fired at Macross.
